I am scratching my head about how much $ allowances for recess is sufficient (have light breakfast @ home)...and advice?

$2 to $2.50 is definitely enough.
On days they need to stay back for CCA or other activities then need to double that.

Since last year, the school has done away with early dismissal on Wednesday.

Just call the school, but they said there is no early dismissal anymore since last year, everyday 1:30pm :(.

Hi, just ask my DD. he said discussed about happiness, fear. Different topic each time. I remember once he came home discuss about how to show love and respect to parents, how can he show his love, etc etc…
