      Ms tay:

Does anyone know how RI streams the students every yr ?Do they stream them lik primary schools do ?

Or do they just stream them to GEP n mainstream classes only ?

from past observations, the last 3 classes have the highest t-score

but it may change this year.

usually first 8 classes from 1A onward are mainstream and sports DSA classes, the rest are made up from majority GEP kids plus some high-scorer mainstreamer who will received extra monitoring sessions from some teachers to ensure they can cope with the GEP boys at different pace from non-GEP class

yes, for past 2-3 years, they do segregate the boys as vk2010 said.
      1A is mainly sports DSA
      1B to 1H for mainstream
1I to 1P - mainly GEP plus about 4-5 boys with high Tscore each
( I being with the lower end Tscore, and P being the highest Tscore group )
1Q also mainly GEP, but most with special skill/talent, eg music, debate, etc ( but not all high Tscore - there is a wide range from 257 to 278, I think )

This year, there are 17 classes instead of 15, but I do note that many classes has 26 to 29 students, so maybe they have excess teachers and decide to reduce the number of students per class ? :scratchhead: Not sure about the groupings though, but so far it is pointed that R and T ( new classes ) are mainstream boys.

They stay in the same class for 2 years, by Year 3, no more segregation for GEP or not, should be separated purely dependent on their academic results for Year 1 and 2.

You can refer to the handbook which was given to the boy on the MOLEC registration day. IF the student cannot attend the lesson because of sickness, an mc has to be produced to the class teacher. If lesson is miss due to other school activity, the kid can request for a replacement lesson if he want to. For lesson miss due to school activity, students are advised to get an excuse letter from the teacher in charge of the school activity... You can read the handbook for more detail info..

        Hi Vlim,

yes, can be rearranged. DS was hospitalised for a week after a fall in sch last year. Just write an email to the German teacher or MOLEC centre, they will arrange another lesson on another day with other batch, eg RGS, NUSH, NJC group of students, to catch up.

Thanks Strparent and hope your ds is fine now. 😄

              Keroppi,
I think gate 15 is accessible by Student Card only ? If that is so, Year 1 boys still yet to received theirs. They can follow others in, but this week only Yr4 PSLs around, as Year 2 boys are in Malaysia and Year 3 boys are at Outward Bound.
My suggestion is drop them at gate 1, its the most convenient and fastest, and also short walk for the boys only.

              😉
Thanks for your timely reminder, Strparent!

I read your reply last night, so I didn't drop off my DS at Gate 15 today. I didn't know they need an access card to enter the premises. So I'll be sticking to Gate 1 until he gets his new student card.

Vsk , don't be so dishearten...today is just the 1st day of sch , everyone is like strangers to him , I think after a few weeks later when he makes new friends he will be alright ...

He said no one talked to him. I told him to make the attempt to talk to others first. Like you said, maybe it's the first day. Hopefully, things will be better for him soon. I want him to be happy in his school.

                  vsk,

I think you should be less worried after the orientation camp.

Normally, 1st day of camp, is more relaxed, everyone intro themselves, group up, mix around, play simple team games, get to know each other kind of day.
2nd day orientation will be more strenuous, long hike through Bishan, team sports, games, leadership evaluation kind of stuff. Not sure if they still have Fright Night on the last night there, but boys on a previous cementery site , what do you expect ?
Interestingly for the leadership evaluation and games - they do note who are fitter, who are weaker, who can last longer, etc, BUT most importantly, they note who helps the weaker boys, who lead them when they are trailing, etc. That is when the boys also see who are the helpful sort. The PSL normally make their recommendations , not on who is the fastest or who is the strongest or fittest, but which of the boys HELPED the others when they lag behind.
They will have a good time and come out of the camp making 20 over new friends, at the very least.
From the camp, most boys determine which boys from their class will run for the CECs ( monitor, etc ) later on.
So, it's not a time to show off your physical strength, more of your leadership qualities, imho. :salute:

The GEP classes are from 1K to 1T. R and T all have GEP boys. 1M has scores from 25x to 27x. Some of the classes in 1K to 1T (e.g. 1T have only 24 students). Anyway, after a few months - it doesn’t matter - its a question of how they perform. I had a friend whose DS went in via sports, and had a very high GPA 3.9 at the end of the first year.

to clarify, 1k to 1t have both geppers and mainstream. But really, it doesn’t matter after a while, the boys mature, and they find their own path.
