Choosing and Evaluating Primary Schools
-
No, I’m not a catholic, so have to apply thru phase 2C…
-
for me, if i’ve to choose between Kuo Chuan (co-ed) & Marymount - i’ll go for Marymount, prefer an all girls’ school. but this only my personal opinion.
between Ai Tong & St Nick (both are SAP schools), i’ll choose St Nick because next time facilitate the child to go into affliated Secondary. -

If you are not within 1km, can forget about AT and StNics at 2C.Hi careermum, thanks for your input. So under phase 2C, we can consider
1. Marymount Convent
2. Kuo Chuan Presbyterian
what about Ai Tong or CHIJ St Nicholas?
Will doing PV for the above schools increase my chances? -
What about Marymount and Kuo Chuan, not within 1km can?

Dear kiasu parents, I’m new to this site. Hope this MSG gets thru to you, not sure where and how I can post my qns.
My son is due to register for P1 this year for next yr. I’m having a bit of a prob now as we just shifted house few weeks ago and are now frantically trying to find a sch for him.
I also just read up abt the registration process and just realized its not as easy as I thought it wld be!
We have been wanting to register him in ACS jnr as we still have a rented place which is just beside the sch (literally less than 200m away). we thought we can get him in without a prob until I found out that we will be under phase 2C as my husband is not an old boy, we didn’t do any volunteer work and have no affiliation!
We just shifted to Braddell hill so if we change our add to the new one, this wil put us out of the 2km range of ACS jnr.
We are advised by son’s godfather to try SJI jnr as a catholic. But I think this wil also be under phase 2c??? But we stand a better chance as a catholic. Is this true?
We are now quite lost. We wld prefer ACS as my nephews are currently in there and I was told that this sch really develops a child into a more confident and well rounded person. My son seems to like music a lot so I was hoping that the big range of activities in ACS wil be gd for him. But I dun really know how to read the balloting charts to understand the chance of enrollment.
Read that sji is not a really good sch from some of the threads in this site. Not v sure abt that. And what’s our chance if we were to try for this sch?
Can anyone pls help shed some light on our dilemma? If the historical data shows us having a high chance of getting into ACS then we’ll go for it.
Any kind help wil be v v greatly appreciated! And thank you! -
Hi Angelight,
St Nic, phase 2C within 1km also need to ballot, so if stay beyond 1 km, don;t even stand a chance.
Ai Tong, so far within 1km & 2km need to ballot, Within 1km usu don’t need to ballot, but sometimes need if oversubscribe.
These 2 are more popular, so can still try your luck at the balloting box if you are staying within 1km.
Marymount, so far 2C no need to ballot even for those staying >2km.
Kuo Chuan sometimes >2km need to ballot. -
Agree with phtthp about the all girls sch.
For St Nic, If do PV, may have higher chance at 2B, but nowadays, even this phase need to ballot even if stay within 1km.
For Ai Tong, if do PV, the chance should be higher than for St Nic. esp if stay within 1km. -

as catholic , you all will be in earlier phase 2B for CHIJ schools. Suggest you call the sch to ask… -

The only phase that gives you a really good chance of entering either SJI Jr or ACS Jr is the Old Boys phase (2A).We are advised by son's godfather to try SJI jnr as a catholic. But I think this wil also be under phase 2c??? But we stand a better chance as a catholic. Is this true?
For SJI Jr, if you apply as a Catholic, you qualify for 2B, earlier than those applying purely through proximity (phase 2C). However, depending on which address you'll be using, you might still need to ballot even in 2B.
Besides er, manipulating your registration address, I think you should consider the actual logistics involved for your son. If you actually live in Braddell, which school would be easier to get to for him? Would you consider other schools near Braddell, eg Maris Stella, which is also a Catholic boys' school? -

Hapimama is looking at ACS and SJI, so she has a boy. Calling CHIJ won't do her any good.
