So in your definition Obama would have been a monkey..
If you have been paid billions and millions, I guess 1.1 million might just make you feel like a monkey.

I am glad there's been a pay cut, though the bonus still sounds appalling to me.

And why they single out Speaker of Parliament for that drastic cut hah? I feel sore for him leh...ouch!

Someone should invite Obama over. He should be happier due to higher pay.

I also think bonus still high.

President also being singled out and 51% cut. Comparing TT & Nathan, TT's entry is untimely.

Obama got very good benefits and can charge a lot of things to the government.

I wonder how's our ministers' benefits. Nothing is reported in the papers.

Also I'm grooming myself and my ds to be the next... . My dream gone liao. If they will be a domino effect on my salary as the president and parliament speaker I will be doomed.

if this is the kind of mentality that has/will filter off certain people to be our future leaders, I am glad with the pay cut exercise, cos it seems to be working!!!

              concern2, :rotflmao: :rotflmao:

but I agree totally. It's like the 'Graceful' MP who link pay package to political office, rather than serving the people to government office.

              really kns.

                Raysusan, Strparent,

To me, it sounds like,\"I would like to contribute to Singapore and Singaporeans but I value privacy more. But never mind, it can be compensated by the high pay. But if this isn't the case anymore, then forget it.\"

She should just speak for herself rather than making the party and other potential candidates look bad.

Maybe I am idealistic, but I do believe if the political environment hasn't been so threatening, more right people would have emerged without the need for such extravagence.

True or not, at least what TSL said sounded appealing to me, that he joined because he wanted to make a difference, to contribute.

You have misread tankee's meaning in his post.

So, you would prefer someone who 'says something appealing' to someone who is perhaps better qualified to deliver?

Politically, its suicidal, but I see little wrong in what Grace Fu is saying. She took a sacrifice to join the ranks, and now she is being asked to sacrifice more, and she is weighing her options. Some of us may say good riddance, but before we cast her aside, I'd like to see who we are replacing her with, then it'll be up to others to throw bricks and darts at well-meaning, sugar mouthed candidates, who may not be up to the task. Not everyone has made their money like Chen Show Mao and therefore is inured to any low level of remuneration for a demanding job.

\"We judge others by their actions, but we judge ourselves by our intentions\"

                        Fully agree!
But I think it will take another generation to un-do the damage and find able future leaders to serve our nation and citizens.

Need to start with getting RI to acknowledge that it breeds a sense of entitlement in our children.[/quote]why so anti-RI ? It is the same with other schools, and every school, political party, organisation, all have black sheep

the \"sense of entitlement\" starts in the family, beginning with the dad and mum
