Also I'm grooming myself and my ds to be the next... . My dream gone liao. If they will be a domino effect on my salary as the president and parliament speaker I will be doomed.
just a tongue-in-cheek comment, in my view

why so anti-RI ? It is the same with other schools, and every school, political party, organisation, all have black sheep

the \"sense of entitlement\" starts in the family, beginning with the dad and mum
Not anti-RI lah... I know so many RI boys. Those closest and dearest all RI... How can hate RI? But love cannot be blind. It is the top school and it does breed a sense of entitlement. Once this school sets a tone, others will respect and follow. It has a moral social responsibility because it is the best.

HCI not much better. All top schools same. Start with RI.

          3Boys:

I see little wrong in what Grace Fu is saying. She took a sacrifice to join the ranks, and now she is being asked to sacrifice more, and she is weighing her options. Some of us may say good riddance, but before we cast her aside, I'd like to see who we are replacing her with, then it'll be up to others to throw bricks and darts at well-meaning, sugar mouthed candidates, who may not be up to the task. Not everyone has made their money like Chen Show Mao and therefore is inured to any low level of remuneration for a demanding job.
          3Boys, hello 😄

yes, she has a right to judge and consider her options. But the last sentence of her comments implied that she speaks for the majority of Singaporeans who are pursuing political office.
Of course, the remuneration is important but it should not be the MAIN carrot. We do not hope to see elitist high flyers who put GDP as the main goal, and leave the welfare of the people still lacking.

Not all aspiring politicians, PAP or opposition, think that way , fortunately.

Maybe in the past, the perception was the best scholars and high flyers would make good government leaders 😓

And not all have already achieved what CSM did, but they sincerely want to serve the NATION, and try to right the seemingly wrong direction.
Gerald Giam in http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=otJDGHndsVw and in http://geraldgiam.sg/2011/04/ge-2011-rally-speech-in-hougang/ is someone who wants to see the nation moved forward WITH the majority of the people.

          :offtopic:

an excerpt below of his speech.

I agree. (S)He meant the exact opposite of what (s)he wrote.

I'm against the pay cut of ministers because I still believe that -

If you pay peanuts, you will get monkeys for ministers and it is necessary to pay huge amounts to our ministers to avoid corruption. (Is there any to date?)
though they may not be corrupt, they are certainly below par in their job performance, just look at housing, transport, health care, homeland security...

conclusion : high pay does not get best / capable people to do the job well, and capable people does not need obscene pay.

they have been fed too much peanuts and bananas, such a waste on food

I look no further than my longkang/longkau, so no time to look at other areas.

Is your longkang flooded? Look only no use you know.

Quote:‘To me, it sounds like,"I would like to contribute to Singapore and Singaporeans but I value privacy more. But never mind, it can be compensated by the high pay. But if this isn’t the case anymore, then forget it."

She should just speak for herself rather than making the party and other potential candidates look bad.’

No matter how hard I tried, I cannot come to the same conclusion as yours after reading Grace Fu’s comments. I would think she meant for her case, it is ok to scarifice some income and privacy to enter politic in order to serve Singapore and the public. However, she was wondering if the pay is cut too much, whether it would have a negative impact in term of attracting the right people to take on the job.

It’s a thankless job basically. I know a lot of people believe they can do a better job than the incubment. But it is never so simple and easy. It is always easy to say I will do this and do that if you are not in that person’s shoe.
