Mom call police and MOE : Teacher force son for a haircut

Er... OT a bit, what is a good remedy for hairloss due to child birth? My hair is far less than what I used to have, and still dropping. Will Svenson do?
Probably stress? Constant worrying can cause hair loss. Personal experience. Once my worries were resolved, my hair stopped falling out at the alarming rate and no more white hair, all within a week.
Back to the boy - hair issue. I didn't read the article and I don't know what transpired before or during the incident. All I can say is it looked as if it was done dangerously, and the school made the wrong judgement call, even if it was with a difficult student. As a parent, if I condone such punishment by schools, I leave my own child open to victimization. The school would have done better telling him to stay home until he is ready to follow school rules.
At the end of the day, hairstyle rules are so...dinosaur-era. In preschools and universities you see all kinds of hairstyles. Strange that from P1 to JC or Poly, it suddenly becomes an issue. A person's hairstyle can give us clues about his evolving personality and state of mind. If u ask me, that's quite useful to a mother! -
It's called school rules. What is wrong with this mom. Long-haired boys I usually see them as paikia.

Go international school la.
Long hair …messy hair, curly hair …I mean boys…
Hey, relax.
Just hair, what so big deal.
Anyway, That is Sg. One system fits all.
Let don’t mention army… He will be bo ta by then. -

I agree. Hairstyle brings out so much personality in a child, if we 'control' his hairstyle, it is like controlling his personality. Kind of sad actually. As a mother, there are certain things we like to have for our children, e.g. the kind of friends they keep, the kind of jobs, the kind of hairstyle, the kind of food to eat etc. But realistically, we really have to learn to respect the kids and give them tools to learn to be different within legal and lawful boundaries. If we make everything so legalistic, then breaking a law is no longer a big deal.2ppaamm:

If there is a rule (e.g. Singapore used to have reject males with long hair at the custom), then follow it or don't go to that place. If you want to be there and belong, then follow the rules.
We are churning out robots at an alarming rate, non-thinking brilliant individuals, if they rebel, it is not necessarily bad, it is a sign that they need to be listened to. If as parents and teachers we refuse to listen to their inner voices, are we forcing them to 'speak' louder with even more dangerous 'toys'? My question is why is this boy going to school with long hair knowing full well he is breaking the rules? Is he angry about something, unfairly treated, mixing with the wrong crowd, not getting enough parental love/attention, having emotional challenges, or teenage growing pains? All these warrant attention.
We think that teachers/educators have too much to do to handle all these, to know what the child is going through, to help the kid get back on his feet quickly so he can function normally again. I think it is irresponsible not to consider all these as educators. If an educator cannot do these things, he/she is not fit to be one . They are not employed to be hair, nails, homework, behavior, test and exam administrators, are they? They are teachers. Teachers teach - behavior, school work, how to handle exams, how to overcome fear and hurt, and why they must have short hair. Not judge and administer.
Also think teachers in Singapore are way under qualified to teach properly and therefore they cannot handle. Some teachers are even too immature and insecure themselves. Something is wrong with the teachers' pay scale (too low), and education level requirement (too low), integrity, and pride is non-existent besides their power display in front of their charge.
Consequently, the profession is not even respected. Another catch-22, you pay peanuts, you get monkeys, and we don't expect the monkeys to do anything more than just a few tricks. Some of us managed to find real good people who don't mind mixing with the monkeys. Many of these eventually become monkeys themselves seeing that it is faster to get to the top by swinging and not walking. For those who would rather not swing from tree to tree, they will be exhausted and leave the profession (and become tutors with thick wads of cash) sooner or later. With so many monkeys, the next generation also learn the behavior of monkeys thinking the coolest thing to do is bag a few tricks and use them once in a while. This is evolution.
Bring back the integrity to teaching. -
Actually we let our P3 son choose his hair style, as long as it meets the school guideline. He has been doing since since P1 and communicate how he would like his hair to be cut directly with the barber … er … Hair stylist.
There are many hair styles that are short and neat.
OT a bit. Short hair is important during BMT. Quick to wash and quick to dry. -

Last week, I spoke briefly to a friend whose son is my son's very good friend. Her son has adopted a long hairstyle, which I thought she will disapprove of. Afterall, she is the mother who believes her son should do classical and not pop music, and her son was from RI.Go international school la.

This boy has opted to study music and is turning 18.
To my big surprise, she told me that she thought the new hairstyle actually suited her boy, and that he took a while to learn how to manage long hair and condition it. (I'm not a big fan of long hair for boys.) I do respect her for that. How long can we impose our lifestyle, our language (see today's Sunday Times), our taste in music etc on our kids. As parents, we've got to learn to live in their world and see things through their lenses. We can't always expect them to see things through our lenses only, right? I have much to learn. -

And stylish. There are also many long, neat and stylish hairstyles. Whatever suits and whatever the person is comfortable with. Every prophet from every religion I know has long hair, every emperor on TV has long hair mah... Al Capone (tua paikia) has short hair.

OT, I remembered a classmate who spotted long hair and was always told by our discipline master (who was also our class form teacher) to cut his hair. As our form teacher, he had to ensure that his class was well-disciplined to show a good example to the rest of the school. What this classmate did was classic - he got his hair shaved and spotted a botak look. We got a good laugh and our discipline master was speechless.
My classmate came to school and grinned from ear to ear with a \"you must be really satisfied\" look. -

aiyoh, I think this teacher is gila on further research. He cut a few boys' hair and this boy's hair was not long. It was 'too thick'. Can like that one? His hair was also cut less than a week before term started. Scary teachers. -

:rotflmao:hm... one more important thing that happens very often. Bad hairstylists. If this hairstylist is bad and gives you a lousy hairstyle, so be it lor, hair grows anyway, no need to sweat, in another month, get a friend to recommend another affordable but good hairdresser, and then try again. Never give up. Sooner or later, we'll find a good hairdresser. When we find one, stick to him/her like glue.
Hm... like finding a spouse lor.
Mine was pretty much decided for me!
Didn't get to try tt many stylists! (so to speak)
