      Hi,

Like to check CCA is typically on which days?

      Thanks.

different days for different CCAs. Usually not on Tues/Thurs, I think bc some students do their electives on those days, including 3rd Lang.

      Thanks. :thankyou:

looking forward for this new chapter... 🙂

As we just join KSP since late last year, we are still reading the thread of NJC, now only at page 155.. (jia yu to myself). Thanks for the sharing, parents, we ( actually i'm the one who is reading, and tell her about most of the things) really appreciate it. She? She is just \"Bochap!\", Princess wat!!!

Regarding S1 orentation on 9 Jan, parents have to attend? or just let DD go by herself? Please advise. Thanks

There will be some talks that parents and students both have to attend 🙂 After that, students will be brought to their orientation groups. Parents remain for some other talks that only require parents to listen (eg. PAACT - Parents-in-action talk)

              Hi All experienced parents,

My DS get into JH1 at NJC. Have few queries...

              1. So far, he shared my computer for his project (Primary school, simple ones) and for games, googling etc. At JH1, does he need his own laptop? What is your opinion and how do you practice and control his/her computer timings, so that the kids are not playing juz too much games and spending too much time in social media sites?

              2. Allowance. To be given weekly or monthly and how much for a normal eater. On CCA days the kids may come late, so what do they eat and is the money sufficient?

              TIA

              1. Not necessarily need a dedicated computer. Our 3 kids share 2 laptops. At any point in time, 1 or 2 of them may bring any of the laptops to school to use for projects. My boy does bring laptop to boarding school though. In JH1, he didn't - not totally necessary, but it's more convenient for him to have one, so I let him bring in JH2 boarding.

              2. Allowance given weekly. S$25/week. Each at the canteen lah. Rice/Veg most economical. There are other dishes too. To each their own lah.

              Thanks Phankao for the input.

I'm waiting for next IT fair somewhere in Feb end or March. Planning to buy a separate laptop for him. But I'll enable \"Parental Controls\" in the laptop to restrain from over-usage.

For the allowance, I think of starting with $20/week. If necessary, I'll increase later. Besides that another $20 as emergency fund to be kept somewhere in the bag, not in wallet, ofcourse he'll know where I keep. 😄

                CandyHeart:
Will the gentlemen feel \"intimidated\" in class as the ratio of male to female is abt 7:3?

Also a concern for me. I've enquired a friend whose DD and DS are in Dunman High. Boy and girl ratio at DHS is something similar to NJC. He told that me initially there may be some unease, but as time goes by, they'll develop as good friends.

All the boys in the cohort will be friends, lah, not just in the same class. In JH2, they have banded classes for Chinese and some other subjects(I think. eg. Math), so they will mix around, not just with their own class. Furthermore, all the boys stay together in nearby rooms on the same floor during boarding. Further bonding.

                    Hi Parents,

                    First day of school today...
As i was reading the threads for NJC for the past orientation, I roughly knew what to expect and ... actually we were very impressed by the way NJC organised this day1 orientation.

The orientation was very informative to the parents. The Principle, Dean, Teachers were trying the best to let us understand what is the core value of the school, what we will be expecting for the next few years, and the PAACT team also shared their experiences with us, as will as orgainizing a seminar for us, really appreciated...

As for the student's council team, they did a very good job in organizing the OG. Clear information was given to the students and the parents.

Do hope that for this year also, we will also have some more \"caring\" parents to participate in this forum, to share experiences, to post question to each others etc etc.. just like the previous few batches. I really \"enjoy\" reading their posting/question/debates/doubts/feedbacks, as will as learn from them.
As of now, i'm at page 200.. 🙂

My son was very unhappy 1st day at NJC yesterday. He is from an all boys primary school and is very unaccustom to have girls (in fact so many girls!!) as his classmates. He feels really lousy and missed his boy friends from previous school.

Can parents who have sons studying in NJC advise how their sons cope with this situation? Thanks.
