      24hr-mum:
how long u take to prepare dinner frm washg veg to washg up aft cookg?

      Hi 24hr-mum,

I think it all depends on what you are cooking. I find a typical Chinese 2 dish 1 soup meal most time consuming. How long depends on what are the dishes. I try to save time here and there. Dinner prep for such meal typically takes 45 mins to 1 hr.

But since I work from home, and there are time when I have little time to prepare dinner, yet, want kids to have home-cooked food, I do have some fast to cook food up my sleeves on my working days. Eg, noodle soup, zee char kind of hor fun, yee mee, pastas, etc. I always have pre-cooked soup stock in my freezer. So that makes cooking fast. Probably 20 mins for food to be ready.

Cooking some of Jamie Oliver's pasta dishes, with some changes, can also make cooking very very fast.

For washing up, 10 to 15 mins after meal? I always wash parts of the stuff while cooking. That saves lots of time.

Generally ‘ang mo’ meals, ie dishes baked in the over, seem less fussy. You just leave the oven to work, and can do other things with your time.

On the other hand, oven-baked dishes are cooked for a long time. Vegetables (to me) tend to be quite dead looking, though I suppose this can be compensated for by raw salads. I was wondering if having oven-cooked meals every day would be too heaty for Asian kids?

No offence meant to anyone. I’m also looking for easy but nutritious meals…right now, in the course of a week, we do a mix of Chinese dishes plus oven baked meats. But after two days running of chicken roast and mac n cheese, we had sore throat. So I’m wondering about the ‘heaty’ thing.

For me, not just ang moh meals are less fussed. Local Chinese style meals can be very easy too.

In my household, everyday, 1 meal is Chinese cooking w dishes, the other noodles/pasta/porridge which can include
          (1) Soupy noodle
          (2) Gravy noodle (hor fun, hokkien noodle, hokkien prawn noodle)
          (3) Pasta
          (4) Porridge (All in 1 pot, not the porridge with dishes)

So in this way, I'm not overly tired out by cooking.

24hr-mum, Jamie Oliver is a British chef. His cook book can be easily found at bookshops and library. He also has cooking show series.
You can try out the book \"Ministry of Food\", very good and easy recipes.

hi 24hour mum, thanks. How come you didnt go for the condensing dryer instead? Heard from the salesman its not hot at all. Was thinking of that until i read your comments on electrolux. 🙂
