comparing 2 students with :-

a) student X - 250
b) student Y - 248 + 2
assuming decimals are the same, who will have the priority in S1 posting and appeal basing on merit?

Good question. Am I right to say if not enrolling SAP secondary school, then student X's point is 250 while student Y's point is 248 so X will have advantage when comparing to Y. Is it correct? 😄

But what would it be if both going to SAP secondary school? :?

My DS's HCL school teacher told us that the bonus points will be taken into account on 2 conditions:
1) if he applies for SAP schs
2) if PSLE aggregate is at least 250.

Therefore, the above comparison, student X will be accepted first than Y as the bonus for Y will not be considered cos the aggregate falls below 250.
Tango. U are wrong. I got 246 and +2 for HMT Merit to get into my secondary sch of COP 248 this year. PSLE aggregate no need 250 la -_-

Yes, you can only use the +1/2/3 for HMT if you are enrolling into a SAP sec school. If the school you are enrolling in is NOT a SAP school, you CANNOT use the HMT pt. It doesn’t matter whether your aggr score is more or less than 250.

Maybe you got confused with the 3rd lang (then it need to be >250)

Stated clearly in the S1 posting booklet:

Students in the top 30% of the PSLE cohort who take higher Chinese at the PSLE will be given bonus points for admission to SAP schools according to the following:
Distinction - 3 bonus points, Merit - 2 bonus points, Pass - 1 bonus point.

250 and above is top 10% of cohort. top 30% should be somewhere 240 and above, I think.

Maybe there is no SAP school with cop <240.. which mean if want to get into a SAP and use the HMT, aggr must be quite high.. 😂

Have SAP schools with COP below 240, lah.

I think the top 30% is not 240, but more likely around 230. How to know, I wonder.

Hi I have a question:

For secondary school posting, my dd’s principal told us that it will be according to merit, not by choice. Eg:

Student A : 250
Choice 1 : School XX, Choice 2 : School YY

Student B : 249
Choice 1 : School YY, Choice 2 : School XX

Student C : 248
Choice 1 : School XX, Choice 2 : School YY

So they will actually rank all students according to their scores, and if Student A cannot get into school XX, he will be considered first before student B for school YY.

My question is, say school YY is a SAP school. And if student C has a merit for HMT (+2 points), how would he be ranked? Since they rank all students according to merit then student B will get into school YY first. But when it reaches student C, and if he cannot get into school XX, will they +2 points for him for school YY? Then what if all the places in school YY has been filled? How would they slot a student in if he as a SAP school as a middle choice?

Does the HMT bonus points only apply if he chose SAP school as his first choice? Hope someone can enlighten me on this, thanks!

If my knowledge is correct -

HMT bonus points are only good if you are applying for SAP schools regardless of first or last choice.

So if you have the extra points, you will have an advantage over another student who didn't take HMT in PSLE.

Eg - your child has 240 + 2 = 242 vs another who only have 241 + 0 = 241.

However, if that student has 241 + 2 = 243, then he will have an edge over yours.

Entry into Sec School is based on merit - so the higher your T score, the better it is for you to gain entry into your preferred school.

Hi

I like to find out what is the grading band for higher chinese for PSLE. How many marks to obtain Distinction, Merit, Pass to achieve the +3, +2, +1 points respectively?

Based on historical results, is it very difficult to get distinction or merit for HCL? Not really worth while slogging for so many years, then only get additional 1 points?

Some parents want their children to study HCL because they want their children to get into so-called ‘good classes’.
