My dd got 9 points raw score and 7 points nett score for L1R5.

      Math A1
      Add Math A1
      English A1
      Chem A2
      Physics A2
      Geog A2
      SS/History A2
      Chinese B3

She is contemplating H2 Math, H2 Econs, H2 Geog, H1 Chem.

I believe this is Arts stream? Any thoughts about this combo? Would this be good enough for entry to take up business degrees in NUS/NTU?

She is not interested in pursuing medicine/science/engineering degrees.

She has visited AJC’s open house today but missed out on ACJC, SAJC and NYJC open houses. Can anyone share their thoughts about these JCs?

      Thank you so much!

My L1R5 is 7 points with only 2 bonus cca points, making it 5 points.

Now i wonder if i should get into NJC or AJC.
        My consideration are as follow:

AJC is just 20 minutes away as i live in Yishun, convenient and good academics at the same time. Many of my friends are also applying to AJC.

NJC has a better academic result but is very far, around an hour of commuting. It seemed to be more academic oriented, which in this case i meant that there is not much other activities in the school or socializing around. So if my friends are not going, it would be dull too.

Any advice??? Help i need this tomorrow!

        Thank you all! 😄

My son just got his O level result as follow. His nett score is 7. Now deciding whether to go for NYJC or MJC. Heard that MJC stressed a lot on academy. Is this true? Cos my son is quite a playful type. Too much studying will be back fired. Anyone has any info regarding these 2 JCs? Any advice which JC will be better for him? We are considering NYJC because its accessibility in transport while MJC, my son likes the environment.

                  Saza:
Ah I see. Okay, but as I have taken higher mother tongue for o levels and got a distinction for it, I need not take it again for a levels.

Yes I think I've decided to take biology either because I cannot do chemistry nor physics and my bio isn't very strong.

Actually the reason I want to take 4H2 is because it would increase my chances of getting a scholarship. A 3H2 and 1H1 would stand a smaller chance. Correct me if I'm wrong 😛
I am encouraged by young people like you who humbly seek the advice of others in planning for your future. Yes, if you are aiming for a scholarship, 4H2 is the way to go. With careful selection of subjects and hard diligence, you can do well for the 'A' levels. Remember too that the organisations are looking for someone who has embraced a holistic education so you need to work on your CCA and develop your leadership qualities. All the best!

If I were you, I would choose AJC. This is ancedotal but my observation of NJC students is that they have no life other then studies 😄 . You will also be placed in separate classes from the IP students and there is a perception (but not necessarily true) of a difference in treatment between IP and non-IP students. AJC students also need to study very hard, but all the JC1s start with a clean slate.

I shall attempt to answer yr query by first comparing the academic standards btw SAJC and NYJC.

SAJC is stronger in humanities whereas NYJC is more balanced in science and arts. If yr dd is takiing arts, go to SAJC if hybrid combi, opt for NYJC. I like SAJC for its smart uniform, vibrancy and multi-cultural enviroment. I like NYJC for its students' friendliness, convenience in addition to its niche programme in CLEP.

Your dd's nett score would place her at the bottom of the science cohort if she is admitted. Its difficult for me to predit the cop for this year. She has to work dam hard due to the school's academic standard which is the highest amongst the three. One outstanding example is maths, is the most demanding in the entire national cohort!

                        With best wishes.
