Sorry to pour cold water on CSM fanboys (actually I am one of them too), but whilst I think there is cause for optimism, its far too early to judge his performance and longevity, yes?

      Yes!

But we already experienced what highly paid MIW ministers is capable of.. from mas selamat to flood selamat datang to public transport (MRT)..

Take the bas with the good. To harp on failings without recognizing achievement is patently unfair in any book.

I think so too. It's been a good start for CSM. I do hope he continues the good work, and l look forward to more good things to come.

3Boys, do you happen to be a virgo? :siam:

Haha, what characteristics are they supposed to have?[/quote]They tend to worry a lot and sometimes too much. They are perfectionists. They can be very critical and have a way with words, which sometimes appear to be harsh, but that is because they feel it is \"for your own good\". Can say more if you want to know. These points are particular to Male Virgos. Anyway, just my hunch, but someone in parliament sure stands out in these characteristics.

that they managed to make Singaporeans hate Singapore? (impression from some forums)

And, we're not paying ordinary market rate for ordinary ministers ok.....

We're paying Extra-ordinary rate.. and hence expecting extra-ordinary ministers..

even other countries ministers drawing ordinary pay, if they fail, they leave (for e.g. Japan).

And, like someone mentioned.. in the corporate world.. if they screw up, they get screwed.. (I'm not quoting the person bcoz not using exact words.. but the meaning is there.)

Here? screwed up.. say sorry.. let's move on..

I guess we disagree. We are in a strong financial position economically, healthcare standards are reasonable, our kids get educated, crime isn't too bad....I think many countries would kill for all these.

Liat Towers, and old building with antiquated design got flooded, so sack the Works Minister?

How many people got affected by Liat Towers? By the sound and fury on the forums, it would appear that half of Singapore were shopping there that day.

Nah, it's opportunistic bashing. Focus on the minutiae, forget all else that goes on in the background.

They are no means perfect, but if you say the present g'ment has not achieved for Singapore, then may I suggest you are biased.

But in one regard you are right, they have brought this upon themselves....by turning Singaporeans into softies via the nanny state.

                  I guess this reinforces why I don't read horoscopes šŸ˜‰ ...

No, not Virgo, and by no means a perfectionist, more a pragmatist.

Perhaps a good gauge would be to see how Singapore/Singaporeans are faring now (in terms of income, quality of living, \"happiness\" level, etc) as compared with some 6 years ago when they last had their salaries substantially raised?

So, do you feel that we are better off now than we were then (6 years ago)?

I say, the past govt is good.. the pre-2000 era.. they made SG strong and prosperous. Not for the post-2000 generation.

The MRT is good. public transport is efficient. Water is clean. The govt is know for efficiency. These are all associated with the past govt.

Now? GDP up, GST up. rich get richer, companies gets richer, the peasants can't afford a HDB flat..

Also, if the pay is more reasonable, I believe the people would be much more forgiving.. to err is human logic can then be applied.

I felt so sick when I heard about the phrase \"Get out of my elite uncaring face\".. Is this the type of leadership that we are seeing?

Are they more concerned about well-being of the pple? or GDP growth which benefits mainly the corporations and the rich?

WHY privatize public transport? and the result? Has it benefited the pple? or rather, rich pple who are shareholders..
