When my kids were younger, we did very little desk work. We played more games together. The only desk work we did was art and craft. When the younger one took his naps, I would spend 1-1 with my older one who did not need long naps. Usually we wld be reading storybooks. I also remembered spending alot of time at the playground and parks. πŸ˜„
My K1 has weekly spelling and 听写, so need some desk work every day. K1 & N1 take their afternoon naps together, so almost no 1-1 time with K1. Difficult right :?

Wow, must learn from you. i'm guilty of not bringing them outdoor often on weekdays. After lunch too hot, after nap need to prepare dinner..... Lazy mummy  So cycling and playground only when eating out.

        Hi

Are your kids attending any enrichment classes?

My younger girl is the super active one. Besides kindy, she is taking abacus, ballet, piano, drawing & phonics classes. Trying to convince her to drop abacus. Only managed to stop her gym class after months of persuasion. She also wanted swimming & inline skating lesson which I can’t squeeze into her busy schedule

For my elder one, she never ask for classes. In fact, she would be quite happy hiding in one corner reading from dawn to night. She said she can self-learn.

Hi. I am new to this website kiasuparents.com.

Chance upon it when I am googling for GEP information. Since then, I have been visiting this website everyday for new informations. This is a fantastic website for parents to share nad discuss about their children.
Sometimes, advices from others do help to reduce some of the stress of being a parent, especially in Singapore.

I am a SAHM with a 9 year old son and a 7 year old daughter.

I quit my job a year ago to be a FT SAHM.
Prior to that, I have private tutors for my children but as the children grow older, I realised that it is not just the academic results I am looking at. I need to be involved in their upbringing and character building which I think no one will be a better person to do that other than myself.

I have no objections about sending the children to enrichment classes but I have experienced it myself that the children are better behaved and produce better results when I teach them myself. πŸ˜„

Hi Sleepy, think I found a \"friend\" for my DS. I also have to stop him from attending too many classes. Just managed to convinced him to stop abacus...as I have evaluated and felt that it's a \"good to have\" skill, and not a necessity. There are many other things out there for him to explore...

So glad that his exams are over today!! Let him play wii for the 1st time on weekday. Our house rules do not allow wii on weekdays, but with the exception of yr end exam πŸ˜„

Does not insist that he sleeps early today...he's happily munching away chilli tapioca and reading at the same time now πŸ˜„

Ha...I forgot to mention that my hubby does the cooking. πŸ˜„ So, I have the luxury of bringing my kids outdoor in the evening before dinner almost every other day. But I must justify that I do all the other household chores from washing to ironing to mopping floor..

                Hi sleepy,

Wow, your dd2 is really active πŸ˜„ At what age did she start taking classes? My N1 is also more active compared to K1, thinking of letting her try out some classes too.

Besides half-day CC, my K1 is only learning piano. She's very shy, initially quite keen to learn ballet, but when she realised it's not \"parent-accompanied\" like her piano lesson, she didn't want to learn anymore :stupid:
Nothing for N1 yet, she'll only start her half-day Nursery 2 class next year.

That's sweet πŸ˜„ It's really good to have the ability to \"self-learn\"!:D My K1 is still very dependent on me, got to sit with her when she's doing her work, else it'll take forever 😒

                Hi kiasimom,
I'll like to teach my kids myself too πŸ˜„ But really difficult to teach two young kids at the same time 😞 I'm concern that my K1 is too shy, might need to send her for some enrichments for more interactions with other kids.

Wow, lucky you. Envy Envy Envy πŸ˜„ I do all the other household chores from washing to ironing to mopping floor...too, and DH's job, beside earning for family, is to play with our gals......
Ha ha, I've \"spoilt' him, always think that since I'm a SAHM, I'll settle all household chores. When he helps out, it's a bonus :celebrate: Luckily, he's not too demanding with housework, always reminds me that I quit my job to take care of the kids, not to clean the house or wash the toilets πŸ˜„ But then, if I don't wash, who will :?

She started Chinese enrichment at 3yo & had since 'graduated' from her class. Started abacus when she was 3.5 yo. All classes not accompanied by parents. I prefer once a week type of enrichments when they are younger. I attempted to send her to kindy at N2 but she kept falling sick so only attended for half a year. Then re-join again at K1.

3yo is an excellent age to start on enrichments. Plenty of options as most enrichment centers take in kids from that age.

I cook & do laundry. Dislike cooking but no choice, part of SAHM's job description 😐
Hubby helps to wash dishes in the evening & mop the floor on weekends. He irons his own clothes too.

That's because I have a massive ongoing project - my kids' room is like a rubbish collection center. They are hoarders! Collect junks like empty yakult bottles, toilet rolls, empty tissue box, pieces of scrap papers. Refused to let me throw away. Things piled up in lightning speed in their room. I'm on this perpectual race to throw things away before they got hold of those 'treasures'. And I have to spring clean their room every few weeks otherwise :!:

I agreed abacus is not that essential, there are so many things to learn, better to utilise her time elsewhere. She has progressed sufficiently in my opinion, I feel that it's not necessary to add/subtract a string of hugh enormous numbers

My elder girl finished her exam yesterday too. She reads storybooks & does her self-learning this morning. That's her idea of relaxation
