Dear 24hr-mum, TonyThomasMum and mauricemum, my boy is also in 1E. Glad to see you here ;)! So far, as most of you have mentioned, it doesn't seem that the boys have any homework these 2 weeks. The Marist Buddy has also been clean; was wondering when would I see something there, or hear DS saying there's HW. However, he did mention abt doing work in class, like HAN YU PIN YIN.

Have also been chatting w DS abt his days @Sch, what he has for recess, etc. Looks like a plate of chicken rice, or char siu noodle, will cost $1; another 50cents for an egg. A sandwhich probably cost 80cents, whilst a pack of chips 80cents - $1. Bottled drinks from vending machine about $1.

As for PAL, according to the circulars received, they won't start with the Pri 1 till term 2. So meanwhile, should be P.E attire on Friday.

Iced milo is 80 cents. My ds drank his weekly quota of milo yesterday.

He’s been scolded a few times for talking since school started. We asked him yesterday who got scolded (I know, phrased quite negatively). He gave four names, then he added, "These were the ones who did NOT get scolded." Kudos to the teachers having to deal with naughty little boys!

                    I read not for P1 & P2.

Need to clarify, heard from my fren that that while P1 & P2 does not have exams, our DS are still graded based on their work in school & this is later translated to banding at the end of the year.

Cany any1 provide insights on whether this is so? :scratchhead:

Not no exams… still got scheduled SA2 (final exams). But CAs and SA1 are quizzes taken in class, sometimes surprise tests. I was also puzzled why there was SA2 when they said no exams for P1. So, they will count spelling, show n tell, listening compre and quizzes etc as CAs and/or SA1, then SA2 is made up of real exam papers.

So this system encourages consistent hard work, not last minute mugging. More stressful for parents actually as sometimes the teacher won’t even tell you when the quiz is coming.

Tho it makes me :? & :scratchhead:
Perhaps its a good example of a loosely used oxymoron... 😄

Seems a bit contradictory about encouraging consistent efforts for school work and yet there is a final. For a moment, I thought that we were moving towards formative assessments. Seems like summative assessments still rule.

Nonetheless, I do understand that change takes time and will remain optimistic about change.
