But then if u were to become a sci person in jc, it will be difficult without triple sci

not sure what you meant by Sci Person in JC, but i assume you are referring to taking Sci subjects in JC. from what i know, not many JCs allow the students to do triple sci !!

Most students will do 4H2 or 3H2+1H1 (excluding GP, PW and 2nd Lang). One of the H2/H1 needs to be a contrast subject. Eg for 4 H2, students will take H2 Maths, 2 H2 Sciences and 1 H2 Arts subject.

for tri sci combination, the student will do 4H2+1H1, where one of the subject must be Arts subject. this combination is tough and i don't think there are many students doing such combination.

hence unless your child wants to do tri sci combination in JC, otherwise i think a 2 sci 2 humanitites is better than 3 sci and 1 humanities.

There is seperate cut-off for Humanities & Science for Most JC. It appears from above conversation that not many takes triple science in JC. Is it correct to assume that taking Double science considered as science cut-off & Single/No Science as Humanities student?

Thank you very much for your suggestion:)Erm for me,I've made up my mind to study H2 chem and maths,so I will left with 1 H2 and 1H1 subject.I'm still in a big dillema on whether to take up H2 physics or H2 geography...can you please enlighten me?as in I hope to take up combinations which is more common and widely accepted in prestigious university. But sinc I'm not taking pure science in sec sch,I will be at a disadvantage when I take 2 H2 sciences right?:(

What do you plan to study in University? You should choose subjects that allow you to do the Degree you want in University, and not those subjects that are common and widely accepted in prestigious university.

In JC, you are either Arts student or Science student.

Maths is taken to be a Science subject. Hence Arts stream student can take Maths to be the contrast subject. Eg Econs, Geog, Lit and Maths (1 Sci and 3 Art subjects).

You are a Science stream student if you take Mat.hs and one Science (Chem or Phy or Bio). Eg. Maths, Chem, Econs (2 Sci and 1 Art subjects)

Hence, it is correct to say that Double science is considered as science student (i.e. Science cut-off) & Single/No Science is Arts student. I avoid using Humanitites as there is a Humanities Scholarship programme in some JCs, and usually Humanities Students refer to these group of students.

I plan to study biomedical science or research in science in uni?And I know that the pre-requisite for it is to have a H2 maths and chemistry, but do I need a H2 physics too?thank you!

I’ve heard that H2 science is extremely difficult for those who took combined science.

In any case, perhaps you can try taking H2 physics, and if you find it too difficult, I think the school does allow students to drop to H1 later on.

Which Science subjects you need to do depends on where you plan to study and what you plan to do research on. You may want to check out the various Universities websites on what are the prerequisites. You can also check on A*Star website too.

If you choose to do 3H2 and 1H1, you cannot drop one H2 subject if you cannot cope with it. Hence either you do 4H2 (drop or downgrade to H1 at Year 2 if you cannot cope) or choose your 3 H2 subjects carefully. No subject is easy in JC, whether it is H1 or H2. Your O levels results are impressive, hence I believe with more hardwork, you can do equally well in A level. You must have confidence in yourself.

This is true. But I have seen cases of students who did well in A levels as he has choose the correct subjects.

I believe Nicole will be able to make her own decision and choose the subjects she likes and work hard to get the results she wants.
