have 2-3 students beside her working on theory at the same time?
Is that group lesson?
In olden days, the lesson is much longer. About 1-1.5 hours long, but they are charged for 45 min. Plus lots of complimentary lessons before exams. Both parents and teachers are more layback but the students are willing to practice.
Doing chores while teaching is frown upon today, of cause. But there are teachers who can buzz around the house and still teach very well, though not many. If the parent hate that, they could sit in during the lesson. -
It is 1-1 lesson, and this happens in every lesson, things get worse after the delivery. As a mother, I do empathize w her till a friend of mine heard abt it and felt that this is not acceptable. Well…

I'd monitor my own kid's progress. If it is good, why bother to change? If you are really unhappy with the child's progress, then quickly find a new teacher.

I’m looking for a female, experienced piano teacher for my 5.5 yr old boy. Planning to switch him from Yamaha group class to individual class to prepare him for ABRSM grading.
We are residing near Buona Vista and preferred to go teacher’s studio. Preferred timing is weekdays night.
Any good recommendation kindly pm me. Thanks!!! -
Hi, does anyone has a recommendation for a piano teacher who is based in Clementi area? My dd is currently learning keyboard in school. I would like her to move on to piano. I’m looking for an experienced, strict yet patient lady teacher. I do not have a piano at home currently. Hence, dd needs to learn at the teacher’s home.
Can anyone help me? Many thanks! -
pm you

I expect the teacher to sit with my child throughout the lesson time, listen intently to her playing & correct her mistakes. Is it a norm for piano teachers to:
1) mark other pupil's theory while the student is playing the piano
2) attends to baby when the baby was crying in the living room who was taken care by relatives
3) have 2-3 students beside her working on theory at the same time?
Do you consider these acceptable?
Theory coaching is done during 1 to 1 lesson time too. But actual doing of theory paper can be in a group -

There's no nice way to say this, but doing anything not related to the lesson is very unprofessional and will send the wrong message to the student i.e. my lesson is not important because my teacher would rather do something else than listen to me. My last 3 teachers all sat with the scores and analysing my playing while I played for them. I had great respect for them and their passion in teaching me.
There are exceptions of course, like the baby problem you mentioned. Some music school teachers I know also have to eat their lunch during lesson time (yes, believe it or not, some music schools do not give lunch breaks to teachers).
