I think the earliest batch of pupils affected is either P4 or 3.

Based on what I know, it's because PL Sec wants to raise the standards by raising the PSLE cut off.

Currently they are getting alot of students with low-mid PSLE scores of 190 - 229, all from PL Primary. Only a handful are appeal cases or DSA cases.

Typically these students are taking up 4/5 out of their 6 express classes per level. No matter how much effort the teachers put in, it's hard to produce excellent results which should be the case given the numerous programmes the school has.

Actually, this matter has been in talk since I was a student there! I'm quite glad they are finally finalising the matter. As an old girl, I'm happy that my alma mater is finally raising the bar (maybe because I do not have a DD yet, so I don't feel the immediate 'impact').

This will also raise PL Pri's standards once parents & students get rid of the idea that they'll be 'safe' as PL Sec will always be their safety net if they don't do well.

And another surprising observation: PL Sec still has Normal Tech (1 class per level).

Hi Csky, nice to hear from you too. I thought I was the only mom here with daughter going to PLMGS

How is your P2 gal coping in terms of school work and is she taking part in Ballet?

            Cheers
            PrincessP

My daughter is coping well and yes, she is in ballet & gym.

That's right. They are in the process so maybe the 1st batch who will be affected are those P4 this year.

                Hi all,

I’ve a girl who is in P5 this year & I was only aware about PL Sec raising their cut off points for PL Pri & not removing the affiliation.

Hopefully, my girl can ‘escape’ from the new scheme…

Have they issued an official letter to inform? Did they state the exact cut-off for the new raised cut off points?

I think they could be phasing it in. The last I heard, they are only giving 5 'bonus points' for PL Pri students.

No official letter was given but we did have a session with the principal last year on this issue.

                      Pri or Sec P?
What's the info they've given so far? My cousins are very interested cos they're deciding if they should send their girls there.

I've just spoken to a parent today, the affected batch shld be the girls in P4 this yr. The girls will be given some bonus points and with these points, they are to compete with girls coming from other schools. No 'automatic' admissions for PL (Pri) girls anymore. So this is what some of the parents was talking about on de-affiliation.

There are so many schools of thoughts now & I suggest your cousins to call up the school to verify.
