Kindergarten and weekly enrichment are of varying degree of Montessori input. What was your girl with CS Montessori for? Good to hear you're giving your children the opportunity to embark / experience a Montessori education. :celebrate:

I already started on buds_chubs at home... :please: He's absorbing super fast! I am like super onz with the Sensorial explorations with him and he's enjoying it. We are also quite in awe that he has developed pretty good understanding of language and already spouting a slew of baby words at 10 mths.

Chubs is a Dec bb. In fact, he just turned 1 yesterday. I am not for the idea that a child born in the last quarter of the year will develop slower than his/her peers. I don't believe in giving reasons for children not being able to be at his/her best. My DD2 is an October bb but she is advanced in IQ and EQ cept that she is still affectionate/manja. :love:

Yes, it is VERY IMPORTANT to have a knowledgable and passionate Montessori directress to ensure the materials/apparatus are introduced and practiced in the appropriate manner so that children will benefit fully from the intended Montessori Education and will continue to gain from the wonders the method brings out in our children.

my girl was with CS montessori math. Before she joined, her concept of addition and substraction is not good. She just couldn't grasp it or forget it very fast. However, i am v surprised that she could do addition confidently after 2-3 lessons. So i think sensorial education works for her. I am very excited about her joining a montessori sch next yr (K2). I have swopped her sch cos her previous school cant prepare her well for P1.

English is not a concern for me cos she could read long stories quite independently now which i am very happy. Jus brushing her up with comprehension and building up her vocabularly bank.

So coincidence, both my DD and DS are Nov and Dec BB too! I feel that parents play a big part in nurturing them. So long we put in effort, they can excel as much as others. They could be disadvantage at the initial 1 or 2 years but they will catch up once we give them the exposure and conducive environment.

Time is an important factor!

We were all so delighted and in fact caught us surprised that he is able to regurgitate the answer without intense memory at all. Tonight the whole family celebrated his achievement with swenson ice-cream. :please:

Can share the tips to encourage mental addition/subtraction and committing simple addition/subtraction facts to memory? My elder twin will religiously use the count up/ down method even for simple single digit sums…the Mei Mei will try to remember simple addition facts(although can get wrong sometimes…)but not for her Jie Jie…will it come eventually?

rule:-

always store the Bigger number in the head, add the Smaller number.

eg: 6 + 8 = ?

ask child: which is the bigger number ? 6 or 8 ? answer: 8
so, store the Bigger number in the head (8), use fingers and add forward the Smaller number (6).

i already have 8, I want to add 6 more.
Take out 6 fingers, count on from eight:

9 10 11 12 13 14

So the answer is 14.

after a while, child get the "hang" of it.

does montessori Maths teach kids mental Maths, like the qn posed by sean wife ? i not sure.


montessori Maths do teach concepts like, why 9 + 4 = 13, using short bead stairs, or any counters (eg: orange counters, any type of counters). The child understand how he gets the number 13. Yes in this aspect, montessori Maths do teach the concept behind how to arrive at number 13.

but commiting it into memory at the flick of the child's finger - i not sure. I did ask a few montessori Maths enrichment teacher & they said the same thing to me, \"Well, with more practice, your child will get used to it, it's a matter of time!\" That's what the 2 montessori Maths teachers replied \"It's a matter of time. She'll get the hang of it !\", after i posed the same qn to both, from different montessori schools. In fact, she is the one that taught my child the method - always store the Bigger number in the head and add to the smaller number, using fingers - which to me is very slow. i'm also surprised at their answer, coming from a montessori class.

i see this mental calculation part an obstacle to clear, in most kids around early K1. the qn is, \"how to help child expedite, get the hang of it ?\"

thus appreciate if anyone may kindly share with us how to answer sean's wife qn on mental calculation part how to speed up, using montessori Maths approach.
