All About Home Addresses

IMHO, I don't think anyone would do that. Moving house is a MAJOR exercise and extremely tiring & time consuming.
not rich ppl lah, just some people who know how to get around the system.
frankly, what are the probability that these people would get caught? do you think the MOE people are so free as to go around catching those renter who rent a house and then planning to move out after getting into the school of choice?
Don't think that they are so hardworking...unless maybe someone 'tip' them off. and even so, I still don't think they will take action.
More likely, they would just rent the place to use the address, and use the place as alternate home without actually shift in. -
erm, you wouldn't believe it UNTIL you meet someone doing that.
there are people who really will do that.
what they do is, they move in, settle down, get kids into the sch of their choice, after 1 or 2 year of staying, then they move out. major exercise, but yes, there are people who do that. they probably would just bring some necesscities to the rented house but possess another house elsewhere where they keep their stuff. -
I know of people doing just that. Move house to increase their chance of getting their kid into their desired school and then move out again once they secured their child’s place in that school. I also have friends who tried the rental route. It’s really up to the individual. I have moved house at least 6 times over the last 7 years (for other reasons and not because of securing places in pri school for my kids). So it is tedious moving (all the packing and moving) but not impossible to do it.

I don’t think there i just 1 or 2 people doin that. there are many. people who know how to go around the system and play with the system.
to parents who rent a house may say this is a fair game as they are more knowledgeable (to be able to know how the system works), but this is definitely unfair to resident who stay for ages. -
I have a friend who rented a HDB near the kids’ school. But they 乖乖 stayed there for 9 years (2 kids). Their own condo was their weekend home.

Ultimately it is more convenient and benefitial for the child & parents if the school is near to home.

Called schools and most of them replied that they welcome all regardless of rented or ownership address. In this case, phased systems are meaningless. However, do read page 1 from this topic of the consequences.

At least two incidents have been reported in the news where the kids were thrown out of their primary schools when the authorities investigated. One kid was thrown out in May just before the start of SA1s. Imagine the disruption and confusion caused to the poor kid.
