sad.. berries hougang even weekday evening class no slot..gotta wait
Hi micollh!
Why dont you put your kid's name in the waiting list first? (I thk they allowed more than one waiting slot)
And when it is nearer to the next term, you can call up and ask them again.
My fren used to tell me as long as you pay first for an unpopular timeslot, they can immediately transfer you to your ideal timeslot even if you are not the 1st on that waiting list.
It happened to my DS2 ('07) - I signed him up on an unpopular timeslot (5pm) and the next min they called me said can give me the timeslot i wanted, even tho i knew my DS's name was way down that waiting list!
How realistic eh?.... -

Actually i hv alrdy planned to place my DS in TH if berries still doesnt hv a place for him this yr because TH had more vacanies and no reg fees.
My purpose is for him to attend chinese enrichment classes, whether berries or TH doesnt realy matter to me as lo as he enjoys. -
i heard Berries is more fun in their way of teaching… tt’s why i choose Berries… heee…and many friends who enrol their kids there din reject the class and improve their chinese…i can wait as my plan is to enrol when she is in K2… now i register earlier to get a "seat"…
-
My target was for my DS to be in chinese enrichment by K1... because his Mandarin is pretty \"jiak lat\" .. his Chinese teachers at his CC always complain to me how unresponsive he is...

-
i know i know… most english speaking family faces this problem… DD attended chinese drama and speech in school in nursery and her China teacher actually help… she still more fluent in english, and speak "broken" chinese as in mix english and chiense which i strongly discourage that at home and their teacher discourage that too in school… she can read as i do the basic chinese with her daily at home… her school no more chiense drama and speech this year due to not enough participants… terrible right? how can that happen… so i feel need to get her to expose more to chinese speaking environment… not many chinese drama and speech classes near my place… so i sort to Berries …

Hi beauty79,(Looking for a listening ear  )
DS1's form teacher called me and said that he failed his Week 2 Spelling last Friday. I am to prepare him over the weekend and the teacher will re-test him again on Monday. Aargh!!! Then I have to stress him to learn his Week 3 Spelling properly, if not, my weekend will be burnt again drilling his 8 words. No time, no time... :stompfeet:
How is your DS1's spelling on Monday?
Hope he make it this time and forever.

My DD1 last year in K1 also got spelling. Go by theme, so got 狮,虎,鸭 in term 2, 动物,农场 etc in term 3. Teach until Peng San, paper soaked with her tears. Then some other parents feed backed about it. They have no 听写 in term 4. Now my DS1 in K1, only got spelling, no news of 听写 yet.
:yikes: Its so difficult...
If is my DD2 (now in K1), she confirm get zero marks. :faint: -

Its good that your DD can read!... I also read to my DS but he is not v willing to read after me, only wants to enjoy the storyline..
But i also dont want to force him too much, just want him to enjoy the process of learning mandarin... :boogie: -

Same here, my DS will prob be kicked out of the sch!.... :slapshead:
i just saw my DS's Mandarin in school, only writing \"up\", \"down\" (in chinese characters).. v simple words... he still hv difficulty in his own chinese name anyway.. :skeptical:
Just checking with the rest of the 07 mummies....
I spoke to my DS's K1 teacher and surprised that the sch is now revising letter sounds (phonics) and will not touch 2-letter/3-letter words until much later.
I asked if that's alittle too \"slow\" for K1 standard, she said this is quite the standard even across other kindergartens.
But i do believe there are schools that are more advanced.. eg beauty79 DD's sch... :boogie:
So in short, cant do without extra enrichment classes... :rahrah:
