Think my boys will be happier to learn with an ipad because they'll always think of GAMES when they hear \"ipad\" and their eyes will glow!

Due to both parents working, I find it hard to find time to teach them how to read.. Both English and Chinese.

So what I did was to get them to use the iPad's storybook Apps.. first, the \"read out to me\" function, for them to learn how to read each words by following the narrator.. Then, they will \"read it themselves\".. I guess the iPad is a great help..

*Gasp* There are storybook apps for Chinese? For what level please? Storybooks for 12 year olds and teens?

Got? Got? Got? :please: :please: :please:

For teens.. guess you can look for novels already.. or sthg like that.. Have lah.. quite common.. many novels.. For Chinese.. guess I've came across romance of 3 kingdoms.. water margin, red chamber, journey to the west etc.. didn't really take note coz my kids not at that level yet. But there is also \"唐诗三百首\" etc.. which I find very interesting.. and also Chinese idioms and their origins etc.. many many Apps ar.. and nowadays may from Chinese origin.. I guess China is a sizable market so you should not have difficulty finding Chinese related resources.. And there is learn Chinese Apps too.. For those strong in English weak in Chinese.. but that one I guess it's targeted at adults..

The storybook I'm talking about is more for younger children I guess. with those \"read out to me\" functions etc.. And pictures and some got sound effects..

So far I hv not spent a single cent on apps..

None is pre-installed. But you can purchase and download at the App store. Some is always free, while some is free for a limited time.. very often with have these offers one.. so you can look out for it..

I downloaded a few free comic ones but Ah Boy not interested as the themes are those Chinese classics, he says boring (even with the recorded playback).

limlim, or anyone else came across interesting ipad stories for potato kids, please share. Or like MyChildren suggested, split a new post about learning Chinese - hopefully can garner as good response as the learning Maths. We did start some discussions in the 'P5' section last year but no more updates.

PiggyLalala - if you are still reading this, your solution to the overlapping triangle is cool ! More like the unitary method. thanks.

I choked on my coffee so badly when I read this that it came out my nose. Good thing I was drinking and not eating or else I might be the first KSP-er to die of laughing.

Wah-lau! Some bits in this thread has really OT-ed by miles! :offtopic:

                        Aniwaes, here's my take..

                        1. Not all parents can teach.
ie. They may be able to teach but mebbe using their old-school style which may take longer for the child to understand. May pose more harm than help.

                        2. Not all parents are cut out to teach.
ie. They may not be educated or not educated enough to teach their children.

                        3. Not all parents can afford to teach.
ie. They both need to go out to work to support their family..... or needs..... or well..... even wants.
ie. or both parents are high flyers in their career or they travel for work often so no time to teach.

                        4. Not all parents want to teach.
ie. Oh.. they teach... but they go, \"Think if given a choice, i want to teach you all meh. Cheh.\"

                        5. Not all parents care to teach.
ie. Yes, there are still parents in this day and age who believe the child learns everything in school..... from the teachers. They go, \"Ahh? We must teach at home oso arh? They go school learn everything oredi what..\"

                        6. Not all parents dare to teach.
ie. They are educated.. knowledgable.. but they go, \"If teach wrongly then how?\"

                        7. Not all parents like teaching.
ie. Aaaah... these parents go, \"Please arh, don't ask me anything. Dunno anything please go ask your teacher(s)...\"

QUESTION : Parents, NOT Enrichment Centres... Are Key To Result.

CONCLUSION : (Some) Parents CAN be the key to results... but not all have the same keys.http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys.php
                        A. That's why Enrichment Centres are the easiest way out.
                        B. That's why Enrichment Centres are making BIG Bucks.
                        C. That's why Enrichment Centres are always there for those who need them.
                        D. That's why Enrichment Centres are the saviour not only to students but parents too.
                        E. That's why Enrichment Centres are delivering more than the school.
                        F. That's why Enrichment Centres are entrusted for this critical task.
                        G. That's why Enrichment Centres are here to stay........
