Just to add on one point - the charges also depend on how senior the doctor is. If it is a senior consultant or the HOD etc… it will be more expensive.

          Hi Pinky88

Does your son have medicine or hospital insurance?? My boy also had unitary tract infection n was referred by PD for circumcision. He had his ops last year at Gleneagles Hospital, total cost more than $1k, fully covered by insurance.

I juz called Dr Cheah's clinic & the staff quoted me an estimate of $1400 for Mt. Alvernia. Do you recall paying so much?

            WOW! :!:

GP only does for a fraction of that cost.
1.4k is really really expensive. My bros
both had circumcision done. Back then
even cheaper. 3 weeks to 1 month to
fully recover. Both did during school
            holidays.

Do any of your son had this problem?

Hope u all can help me as surgery is very scary for my son and even all kids.

                Hi Nancy,

How old is your son? DS2 is coming to two years old this week... We decided on circumcising him because whenever he urinated his pelvic cavity would swell up but the urine will not flow out freely... We were told by the doc later after his op was because he had an inner foreskin which also had a lot of loose skin, thus his urine ended being collected inside this inner sac.

Anyway after the op, his penile head was still hidden. We thought back then was due to the fact that he was fat. He has since lost some weight around his middle and his penis is still hidden  ... Anyway we thought to let it be since he is able to pee such that his urine shoots out rather than collect within his pelvic cavity. Hopefully his errmm penis will grow out normally when he reaches puberty.

                My question to you is:
                - Notwithstanding his penis head is still inside/hidden, is he having difficulty urinating?
                - Are you having trouble retracting his remaining foreskin when bathing him?
                - If the tight foreskin condition has been resolved i.e he can pee normally. Is there a need for your son to go through another op just so that he can have the circumcised \"look\"? :?

If I were in your situation, regardless that his penis is still hidden after the op, if he is not having problems with tight foreskin issue, then I will let it be... It may be a blessing in disguise as your son may still sport the uncircumcised look even though he had circumcision done πŸ˜„

Not an expert opinion but hope it will give you some peace and comfort to make the decisions for your son. πŸ™

                  Hi Zack,

My son just turn three. Passing urine is ok, retracting foreskin is quite hard. I am just worry abt the growing of the penis and the health.

Your son had surgery at where? I may want to bring him to see the doctor for advice.

After two mth after the operation, his penis head is still hidden, worry wld affect the growth.

Is it possible to chat with u through personal email?

                  Thanks for your advice!

DS is turning 6 and he is still unable to fully retract his foreskin. I was not that concerned but did consult the PD about it. She said that it is not uncommon for boys his age to still not be able to retract the foreskin fully. What is more important is that it does not pose and problems for them. She gave DS a cream to apply to β€˜thin’ the foreskin to help retract and initially it seem to work. He was able to retract the foreskin a little and I thought ok problem solved. But lately, I noticed that the foreskin is again back like before and he is not able to retrack at all. To make matters worse, he seem to be getting frequent infection. Not urinary tract but his penis will get swollen and after sometime, there will be pus. The doctor said it is superficial, as in the infection is on the skin due to trapped dirt so not too bad. Will be worse if it’s UTI as that can affect the bladder and even kidneys.

Now I am wondering if it will be a good idea to get him circumcised or to wait it out, give it more time.

                      Any advise?

DS1 is gonna be 8 this year and he still has the same problem of not being able to retract his foreskin. I am remaining status quo for DS1 as thus far, he has not experienced any infections. I am hoping that we can keep to this until he can retract his foreskin naturally hopefully by puberty.

Funz I do not think there is a right/wrong answer here... Guess some parents will just wanna treat the problem at the root by going for circumcision... Only thing to note is once done is not reversible.

For me I would rather DS1 decide for himself later in life whether he wishes to be circumcised or not.. Ultimately the body belongs to him. So for me, unless medically necessary to go for the op, I will adopt the wait and see stance.

                        :celebrate:
