All About Parent Volunteers (PV)

It’s true… There are some schools who has already opened their applications pv duty for 2008 children so it’s causing me to have ks syndrome…

Hi, my gal is born 2007 and we are staying within 1 KM of Tao nan, Ngee Ann and CHIJ Katong.
our ideal would be of coz Tao Nan but have to prepare for other alternatives. Need all the experienced parents here,
1. would being a PV guarentees you go into phase 2B?
2. For Tao nan, their history is still balloting for both 2B and 2C, so i get 2 chances if i am a PV?
3. when should i start applying for one?
4. there are many kids born in 2007 around my area too, should i really go volunteer?
Also heard these stories and am really curious about our education system.
1. our neighbor was declared bankrupted 1 year before his son register for P1 and he claims its coz of his bankruptcy that Tao nan rejected his PV application and also later his son could not get into Tao Nan, Ngee Ann or any good schools.
2. Another friend told me because her husband is a PR, she also couldnt get her daughter into the good schools like Ai Tong…i know this sounds ridiculous because i believe its all balloting…but just curious
3. A "rich" businessman business associate did PV for 1 year for Tao Nan but end up they couldnt get into Tao Nan and later changed address to be within 1 Km…how is that even possible??? -
1. would being a PV guarentees you go into phase 2B?
Yes, as long as you completes the PV required hours
2. For Tao nan, their history is still balloting for both 2B and 2C, so i get 2 chances if i am a PV?
If you failed in 2B, you can try again in 2C.
3. when should i start applying for one?
Based on past years', application opens on 1Jan of the year before registration, ie 2 year before P1. It closes once they have enough applicants. All applicants are invited to a briefing then ballot for PV duties slot. Some applicants may not be successful in this ballot. In your case, it is NOW !!
4. there are many kids born in 2007 around my area too, should i really go volunteer?
Yes they are many, thus the past years of balloting within 1km for 2B & 2C. It will get worst as there are increasing more higher density residences replacing old bungalows within 1km to the school. No one can make that decision whether to try for you.

I doubt that's the reason of rejection.
2. Another friend told me because her husband is a PR, she also couldnt get her daughter into the good schools like Ai Tong..i know this sounds ridiculous because i believe its all balloting..but just curious
This is also baseless as PR are also eligible in 2B & 2C, same as Singaporean. But not foreigner. And it is the nationality of the child that's matter, not the parents'.
3. A \"rich\" businessman business associate did PV for 1 year for Tao Nan but end up they couldnt get into Tao Nan and later changed address to be within 1 Km..how is that even possible????
So what if they change their address since they already failed to get a place. Once a phase is completed, it is completed. -

has any Peichun PV interviewers received their acceptance email?

SCGS takes in very little PVs because they feel very bad to make their PVs serve 40hours (min) and risk not getting a place in 2B. There were 37 applicants in 2B for 2011 registration exercise of which only 11 were PVs (i think). The rest were Grassroots Leaders. 40 seats for 2B last year.
2012 will see balloting definitely as there are now a lot of parents serving in grassroots.
1km address will definitely help if one is serious about getting into SCGS. -
So 26 from Grassroot for SCGS. Thats a lot & I am still confuse ! I thought there is a limit that each GRC can upgrade its member to Executive Member & also SCGS is only listed to wherever it’s GRC, meaning to say other GRC is not eligible for SCGS P2B Enrolment ?

Hi can I check if RGPS and Henry Park Pri accept PVs? And must the PV be staying within 1km?
In your opinion, is there a higher chance for my gal to go RGPS or Henry Park Primary?
TIA
