2012 P1 Registration Exercise for 2013 In-Take

Well, moving is really not an option for us as 1) cant afford property in bt timah and 2) we want to stay near grandparents. So we just gotta get a backup nearby but the worrying thing is that there aren’t any schools within 1 km of us and seems like all the other schools in the area are rather popular even in 2c. I wonder if MOE will have some suggestions rather than asking us to move.

when we register 4yrs ago, the only school within 1km is a girls school. so we registered our boy in a neighbourhood school >1km (within 2km) that we were sure that sure will have vacancies as moving was not an option for us too. -

[/quote]Hi. Can anyone offer suggestions or advice to my situation? I stay in the east but there are no schools within 1km with haig, chij kc, tanjong katong within 2 km.. I will be trying for:
1) rgps under pv for 2b but stats don't look encouraging esp. if the classes r reduced and >2km..
2) pei hwa under church for 2b but kinda far and very competitive as well
3) chij kc for Thanks
IMHO, CHIJ KC or Haig Girls' would be my choice as the kid need not spend too much time on traveling and can be quite assured of a place in these schools though balloting outside 2km was needed last year for CHIJ. It might or might not happen again this year.
Good luck. -
last year 2011 registration exercise, rgps intake was 9 classes (270 pupils).
PVs less than 1 km and within 1 to 2 km - no balloting.
but PVs under 2B staying > 2 km need balloting. A few balloted out.
one six year old K2 Singaporean born child was at the scene of balloting. She was disappointed & upset, kept asking several times, \"Mommy, why didn't the school call out my name ? why they keep calling out other children's name, but not my name ? why Mommy ? \"
Principal drew the the little girl close to her & hugged her tight, comfort her.
Principal advised them try other schools, under 2C.
Principal advised important to make sure secure a place under 2C first.
one of them stay in Serangoon - applied for CHIJ Our Lady of the Nativity. This is a small school, an all girls school. In the event if there is any withdrawal from someone before year end December - this little girl is given priority, as her mom is a PV. Principal advised them to fill up a form quickly and put down remarks join Transfer wait list appeal queue, \"i am a PV, my child was balloted out under 2B PV unfortunately.\"
hopefully, this year intake still remain at 9 classes.
in the sad event that is cut to 8 - on registration day, monitor closely Katong Convent, Haig girls, Ngee Ann, or even Tanjong Katong, or other schools nearer your house. See which one has the highest chance of getting in. Close to end of day 1, call up P1 Registration officer in charge from these schools - haig, chij kc, ngee ann, tanjong katong, ask, \"what is my chance of entering into your school? do you think my child stand any chance ? \"
how far are you from Red Swastika or Temasek ? There is also Cannosa Convent, but not sure how far is it to your house ? fyi - Cannosa Convent start Higher Chinese from P1. At the same time, quickly fill up the form for Transfer wait list, remember to pen down remarks that you are a PV. Usually towards end of the year in December, there's likely to be slight movement ... because there are rgps parents with daughters eager waiting for transfer, eyeing some other primary schools. For this group of parents, rgps is a temporary stepping stone. Others got last minute notice posted overseas to work, causing vacancies to arise.
as you stay in the east, Pei Hwa is even further than rgps, unless you intend to shift nearer. -
phtthp,
OMG! your story is scaring me… at least now I’d know better NOT to bring my gal along for the registration day… the worst thing is setting up all these expectations to disappoint later… the poor kid in your story must be so sad…
I stay in katong area. not heard of canossa before. May try to find out more.
thanks for the advice everyone! -
towards end of day 1 for phase 2B PVs, the officer in charge of registration rgps will notify PVs staying > 2 km if got chance to proceed or not, & whether balloting is required.
in the event you’re asked to withdraw & try other schools, quickly call up haig girls, katong convent, ngee ann, other schools nearer yr house, check the situation. Ideally, one spouse station at each site. -
OH NO! I just realised that my block is just out of the 2km boundary for CHIJ Katong! how unlucky is that?! the next block is included.
oh no… that leaves me with TNS, Haig, Tanjong Katong Pri and Kong hua within 2km. TNS and Kong hua are nearly impossible even within 1km. that leaves me with Haig as a back up.but ideally I will prefer KC as it is in between me and my PIL and I have two nieces there already who are very close to my dd… this is so stressful. -
hi springwater,
last year 2011 under phase 2C, Admirality was 2.34 times oversubscribed, balloting required:-

but not sure balloting start from what distance. The info from MOE doesn't break down by distance, just give one lump sum figure. However you may visit other thread, try to see breakdown by distance.
you may call up MOE helpline telephone 68722220, confirm whether or not you are within 1 km:-
