Dyscalculia ? Any solutions in Singapore?
-

Thank you. -
Hi,
My DD is in P2 and has been asked join Math Remedials from next month. My DH and I have observed her working Math assignments - sequencing, counting backwards, place value, confusion in the symbols +-X etc., inability to comprehend simple word problems if the semantics are changed - eg.' more than', `how many more'.. All symptoms are pointing towards `Dyscalculia'.
Would appreciate if any of you have had any experience `fixing' this in your child...did you use a particular method or Institution...?
Thanks in advance!

If I’m not wrong, DAS (dyslexia association) have classes and resources for this. Contact them and ask?

Thanks Deminc, will do that.
Also came across a site called Karismath.com which offered a well thought out downloadable program for numeracy challenged children.

Dyscalculia needs multi sensory approach and concrete examples. I doubt a computer programme can do much. if it is just drilling and more exposure, then yes, can supplement with computer. all the best!

Thanks, Deminc… Whatever works:)

There is a program developed specifically for Dyscalculia.
You can read all about the development and download a free copy from this website:

Thanks Leo. Did go through The Number Race. Shall download and try with my daughter. It’s good to know that it has a built-in algorithm that adjusts to the child’s ‘level’. It seems to require less parent intervention as compared to Karismath, though there seems to be a method there, too.
Grateful for the many suggestions from this forum. -
Have u tried playing maths related games with her
Best to interest her b4 concept -
True about getting her interested first:)
Have started playing ‘who has more’ and ‘how many more’ games with her. Also observed that she is developing a block towards large 2 and 3 digit numbers. She is quick to figure who has more…but gives up when she can’t count on her figures.
Shall stop looking at her text books and e-Math assignments for the time being and work on motivation and interest.
Any ideas on stage-appropriate games would be appreciated:))
