Parents, not enrichment centres, are key to result

Could this be the teacher's strategy - teach less in school and teach more in tuition centre.

Textbooks are not updated to change with the times.

Regardless of constant issues related to teach less and test more, MOE is keeping quiet. Really surprising.... I am sure MOE officials also have kids studying in local schools. They should be aware of the problems as well. Is it like who is going to tie the bell for the cat? :?

My DD's school (for P3) covered only 4 or 5 pages in the science textbook so far. But in the enrichment centre, they finished living things and non-living things, animal classification and their characteristics. Even a ladder may not be enough to fill this gap. Those kids (unless they are naturally smart/gifted) failed to have parent's involvement (time and knowledge) or tuition centres' help ( :moneyflies: ) will be :imdrowning:


I should also mention that they (school) are quite fast with Math.

Again when it comes to English, not much as far as I know. I also dont send my DD for English enrichment class (except creative writing). Getting panic now although I bought the assessment books (and English assessment books are collecting dust).

So it is...... the parents and enrichment centres - play key roles for children's academic success.

My DD goes to Mindstrectcher SCience. I think they will give more revision papers if they finish the syllabus earlier. And I dont think they will finish 100% (MOE) P3 syllabus in one shot. They will space it out. May be two chapters ahead of school(?) And I heard they will also give 4 practice papers for CA1, 4 for SA1, 4 for CA2 and 4 for SA2. If you want to do more practice papers before exam, then your child must know the basic contents first. If we follow the school pace, it may be even troublesome to do the top school papers. If you know the concepts bit earlier, then you will have enough time for revision and can do more practice papers. All these were just my own opinions...

So at least that explains why alot of A students are in enrichment, ie, get ahead of the cohort, an early start to revision papers...and higher chance of ace-ing the exams! :evil:
