they look all the more foolish because there was no monetary gain on their parts.

so at least those berating the 'scholars' and 'top civil servants' for corruption have less to gloat about.

they just fell prey to a silly weakness - 美人计...

      such a waste... 千个万个不值得

and for this woman to sleep around just to gain deals, oh my... she has serious self-worth issues. the money doesn't even go directly into her pocket!

the party that comes out top in this whole saga is 晚报! times like these I'm so glad for my ability to decently read mandarin and appreciate all the subtle insinuations in the reporting. guess they also report 'without fear or favour' - dun give face to high officials, unlike PAP times. wonder if they'll really manage to publish a photo now that they have Singapore hanging onto their every word!

She's not an innocent party. No reason why the police should shield her, just for being a witness. She was clearly out to deceive and obtain unfair advantage for her company.

guess another learning point here? be wary... very wary of those sweet sweet types, esp those men in mid-life crisis age - they might make you feel good/handsome/like a king, but don't discount the fact that they might be sleeping with your (much uglier) colleague too. So don't feel too special in a hurry.
To answer ur comment in red, it's std CPIB procedure. Her identity has to be protected since investigations r still ongoing to cast d net wider n dig deeper. U don't want to scare away others who may be involved.
If dis turns into a corruption case, she will not be totally spared but her sentence will be mitigated with her co-operation.
NBG n PL will be knocking their heads now - they probably thot they can 'hv my cake n eat it too'. Sympathise with these 2; nice careers gone just like dat.

Not to be rude, but I don't think you can speak for all of us. Trouble came looking for them, not vice-versa.

Also, I think your view may be clouded by your personal encounter with a third party, and mine by the vulnerability of my boys to predatory girls.

Remember that underaged girl who ensnared a whole series of men in sexual relations? Who is more in the wrong?

The law is weighted against the men. I seldom speak this way about any issue, I believe the man carries the heavier burden and should do so with dignity, but this is one situation where watchfulness is warranted.

Oh no, not rude at all. You always tend to be very objective in your posts and I am actually quite surprised by your take on this issue. I do see where you are coming from of course, but we are talking about adult males who have been selected for their clear judgement and intellect - I presume! - not inexperienced teenagers. That makes a lot of difference. I have boys too! Boys are passionate, sweet, physical, and often do before they think; I love them! 🙂

It's not that these two adults do not know the potential consequences. It is that they think they can get away with it. And perhaps they could have. And it is in this possibility that distrust is bred, whether in governance or personal relationships. If their ema did not spill over into their work, there would not have been such an uproar.

Spot on. The same can be said of the woman involved. Unfortunately, the consequences for the 2 men are far greater, and they should have thought of that.

Our top police and army officers have been taught since day 1 to be careful of pretty women since they can be spies send by foreign intelligence to espionage on us. I always imagine that our top police officers to be the most cool headed people but to fall into such a small trap like \"this one\" really prove me otherwise. Even little low ranking officers have been reminded repeatedly not to fall into such traps, not to mention top officers who actually get the system in place. I am abit worry about all out trainings that we have gave to out police and army officers, does the training packages have substance or are they just wayang show?

r u assuming dis or hv participated in such training package(s)?
I hv not heard of it.
          These ppl r not monks;
Anecdotal evidence will show dat these ppl also frequent public entertainment spots where girls r a plenty.
It's personal; each just hv to know where to draw d line.

I have attended such lectures. They will give real case studies and the threat is quite real...don't ever think that people are not interested in this little red dot.

            Definitely pride and hubris.

            But;

            1) Its not clear that they broke the law

            2) If they did, so did the other party.

They shoulder the greater burden, but it does not mean they are in the greater wrong. There is a difference.

I share your view. Cannot be the men alone at fault.

yup agree... that's why i think it's a very timely reminder to all of us. we can all be tempted anytime. THINK HARD of the consequences, the beautiful family you worked so hard to build over the years, children whose future you will be jeopardising... before throwing it all away for a romp in the bed.

We must never be deceived into thinking that this could be \"true love\". Seriously, as parents we are old enough not to be stupid like that. Emotions can be very strong and make us muddle-headed and 一时糊涂, so as a note to self too we can never remind each other and our friends (and children when their time comes) too often not to stray down that path.

It's common knowledge every country spy on each other.
d ISD n MSD has their purpose.

Case study such as d SG operative ensnared in beauty trap in Moscow?
One can teach awareness of such things but how to teach d men to keep their pants on in d face of great temptation? It's really up to d men's strength of character to resist in such compromising situation.

These two men, esp those in sensitive positions, would hv gone thro' stringent probity checks before their appointments, yet they succumb. I don't subscribe to d view it's d system or training fault.

Maybe d training manuals shd hv PM LHL's utterance printed boldly on top of each page: \"Mee Siam Mai Hum\" as a constant reminder! :rotflmao:

As an EMA, in this case, it is the men who succumbed to temptation and they are accountable to their families, not the 'pretty woman'.

                    Maybe this is clearer?

What is the meaning of "水查某"?
