I'd prefer a more chinese environment, so I think SCGS will be a better choice because it is also a full sch. Thank you for your advice, they really helped me alot! :thankyou:

RV will be the most chinese of the 3. In fact, scgs is more english than her name sounds. As for being a full school, I wonder how relevant that will be 20 years down the road. P1 registration policies may change in years to come.

Yes, that is indeed true. So out of the three schools in the poll, which will you pick? Pls select two. Thank you!

                Hi,

Why don’t you consider NYGH instead?

                1. It is a girl’s school
                2. It leads to HCI which is even better than VJC.
                3. It is not far from your home which is in the south western part.
                4. It is a Chinese oriented school.

All criteria matches what you are looking for.

                  Hi ,

Just to share some info abt scgs:
My daughter is in sec 1 in scgs this year.initially she was very negative about the idea of going to a girls school, however I would think she s adapting well to the sch environment and likes her school now .
The plus point of scgs I think is the teachers . The teacher’s that I had came across during formal and informal meetings were all very kind , polite and understanding. The feedback from my girl is also very positive. She said they were strict but make allowance for occasional bloopers from the girls.
There s no mid year exams for all level but instead they are graded through weekly tests and assignments which I personally feel it s better cause it allows for consistent effort to be put in.
The school is actually not a Chinese school as the name suggest but set up by peranakans . Therefore the girls in sec 1 are required to go for a 3 days trip to malacca for cultural immersion which was a good experience for them.
The school is putting up an item for this year ndp and it s really hard work for the girls as well as the teachers in charge as they had to train and rehersed 2-3 times a week after school and all the way past 9 pm. Kudos to them ESP the teachers who had to burn their sat looking after the girls.
The classmates of my girls are mostly polite and nice. In fact, I was presently impressed when I visited the school last year to check out .
Most of them speak and carry themselves very well. They were usually more eloquent in English than mandarin though.

However you have to be prepared to pay a bit more for the school fees since it s an independent school. They also have interesting enrichment prog from the girls every year which can be costly too.
Most of the family backgrounds of these girls are quite affluent . It s a minority to be hdb dwellers. My girls’s cliques are all staying in private housing except for 1 or 2 like her. But I m glad she s nonchanlant about that. Their holiday choices are like USA , Europe so if you feel that you will be miserable comparing, then I will advise you against going to this school.

Since it has an affiliated pr school, so you can see that some of the girls tend to clique with the same group of friends and it may be difficult to break into their cliques. However based on psle t scores, the girls are allocated to different classes . So usually those from other pr schools are banded together since the cut off point for them is higher compared to those that are from the pri school.

I am quite pleased with the school as for now because I think my daughter has become more eloquent and she came out from her quiet shell and she is also more sensible and responsible now .

                    Hi,

All of them are good, of course. If it's hard to choose, remember that SCGS is a full school, and if you have a younger daughter or your daughter has a daughter in future, they can all go to SCGS from primary division!
SCGS is a full school meaning that the primary school is affiliated to the secondary school so there would already be 'pre-cliques' and it would be harder for you to adapt and fit in.

RVHS is a VERY chinese school, but if you prefer that... Also, RVHS' skirt is white so if you get your...

Personally, I will choose Cedar (my opinion is biased as I am from Cedar) Not only does Cedar have a very good IP programme straight to VJC, but the environment is very big and conducive for learning. Also, Cedar is more inclined to sports, so there is a weekly jogging period which boosts class spirit and morale by a lot (I'm in track and field so I enjoy running)!

I am not from Cedar, neither is my dd. But I think Cedar is a good choice compared to the other 2 becos of the IP linkage to VJC (which is currently the 3rd top JC).

On top of that, Cedar's O level cohort did very well in 2013, so I believe the school is on the rite academic path.
