Parents, not enrichment centres, are key to result

The parents who work are given copies via their children (if they like.. can call it as being informed bah and parents who can make it or want to make it, can come if they are available. The teachers are doing the workshops as extras for parents whose children fall between the cracks like you once mentioned.. do homework CHECK.. revise CHECK.. do assessments CHECK.. but still not seemingly getting better grades. Some parents request, cos they have time to spare to supervise and WANT TO assist if they can ... but only if they can first understand. So the school supports and runs them so as to distinguish parents' fears abt stuff being taught out of curriculum and such. It's not a compulsory thingy. More so out of goodwill and at their own time really...

So, it's not entirely accurate to say only in well-oiled ones like my girls attend la.. :hugs:
Principals also come and go so it's really not necessarily only a Principal issue as well. Joint responsibility yes... and the overheads should take lead in taking charge to ensure all their parts are well-oiled to run the system.
In certain schools, it is really at times a \"teacher issue\" and yes may he or she be bashed..
Cos in such a well-run school as well there surely will be one or two ... you know... sheeps of different shades... they come from the dark side. -

I dun wanna point finger at Teacher or Principal or whatever... even though I was furious when I DS came home to ask if he could contribute some of our resources to his CL teacher, because his CL teacher had asked for everyone's tuition resources for collation.
I just want a solution that everyone wins from. Teachers, Principals and students... everyone is part of the system. No sense to bash anyone or point fingers. Take joint responsibility and put our heads together and see what can be done to make better.
If his CL teacher is so deprived of resources as to ask students for tuition resources for collation, then let's provide her adequate copious resources so she does not have to write her own. -

I just have a few minutes while waiting for my Minister of Transport to uh... arrange my charriot ride home but I did want to say a few things:
a. I do believe lots of parents share a lot of your views but yes, working parents don't have much time; I pop by off and on but the thread has spun on so quickly... and I take so long to catch up with the reading :(, so I remain silent but I do agree that better resources for all would be a great start;
b. I admire your spunk and energy -- but for myself, when I was faced with DD's PSLE, I had so little time so I just rolled up my sleeves and got the job done - there was so little time for engaging any other party; DD does feel that she was homeschooled and went to school to meet her friends [ and get away from Mummy's homework too of course]
c. I have tried to engage the MOE Curriculum specialists on the issue of better textbooks in 2009 [ long story as to how a group of Mummies got this 'lobang\", but it involved someone knowing the then Minister of Education - not me though - I just tagged along]; I found them really nice people --- they took the time to hear me out, look at all my materials [ this was for Science where I tried to show the inadequacy of the textbooks and also the poor QC for quite a number of school papers] and well, let's just say in 2011, when I had to revisit PSLE, I decided that doing it my way was still the way to go.
So Chenonceau and the many other parents here who pour their heart and soul to level the education playing field, I salute you and commend you for your efforts.
Rest assured that there are \"silent readers\" like me do agree and had we more time, would join in vocally to support you too
