NUS High School of Mathematics and Science (Diploma)

For students interested to enter U.S. Univ, they need to do SAT (& AP)
during Yr 5.
They have U.S. Univ coming to the school to setup talks & interview.
The only thing is the core subjects:Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology, and
elective on Humanity courses.Whereas other JCs taking "A" level have flexibility to take 2 Maths, and other combination you think you could score well.
(you can even sign up as external candidate for "A" level on your own
for the subjects you can score well.)
The Research foundation is much better and profound than others JCs and IP.
We are competing worldwide now.
Choose what you think is fit, the school, the University, the programs…etc. -
Year 1 is only 25 days old and in 15 working days the extent of assignment given to these students and the standard looks very scary…for this age…
Do anyone has similar opinion ? Please share the experience on how to handle the level of stress in this school… -
Hi, can u all share some of how n what nus high teaches the year one math n science??just curious about the standard

KiasuMummy.:
Dont worry, the students adapt very fast . there may be some adjustment period, then they get involved and used to it.Year 1 is only 25 days old and in 15 working days the extent of assignment given to these students and the standard looks very scary....for this age....

The key is to be more consistent in the work. A little planning for the projects eases the path. -
Hi "KiasuMummy",
What is your ds/dd Mentor Group?
How did your ds/dd get into NUSH, via DSA or S1 posting?what is his/her PSLE score?
What is his/her CCA?
what is his/her Enrichment module programs?
Is he/she member of Einstein+ now?
Is he/she doing Basic or Advanced Olympiad Math Module?
What is his/her 3rd Language?doing at MOELC or NUSH campus? -
KiasuMummy.:
My DS says so far quite manageable, likes most of the subjects although some teachers can be quite boring, prefers to read up the topics on his own. Math Olympiad & Robotics are fun, Chemistry 'rocks' ... But doesn't really likes IH & PE. DS says he feels like going back to P6 whereby the homework load is quite a lot plus a bit tougher, especially IH, as he is rather weak in writing .... See how it goes ....Year 1 is only 25 days old and in 15 working days the extent of assignment given to these students and the standard looks very scary....for this age....

We are overseas Singaporeans will soon be heading home. Child will be back for secondary school. He has expressed interest in giving NUSH a shot. He has been top in Science and above average for Math. (The school follow the SG syllabus)
Anyone has kids here who have sat for the selection test for NUSH? Care to share? As we will be flying home for the test, I would like to know how best I can help him as he will not have time to attend any preparation course. I understand from friends that there are DSA prep classes in Singapore.
:thankyou: -
Why don’t you post this in the NUS High thread? The parents and kids there mostly entered through DSA (90%) and they may be able to advise you better.

Today is AMC 10A, anyone’s DS or DD going for it ? Understand from DS1 most of them going for it, school advised all to try. Cost only $4 after subsidy. DS1 didn’t really have time to prepare for it except reading some Q&A which I downloaded for him. All the best to all taking the test !
