      Hi beauty79!

      Gd morning!
      I need advice from u.
Yesterday my girl seeked help. So I went, her letters so big so I told her is big, then she started to cry. She had no patient to listen what I am trying to say. She said she knows what to do.why she behave like this? She said u r not T. I said mummy is the first T to all kids. She can't accept.sometimes she listen to me and do the assessment books.yesterday she got tired. But at times it happen. I just worried. Next year p1. How to overcome this? Why she behave like this? Very sensitive and imotional person.
      Hi good afternoon smartmummy,
From my experience with dealing with the pupils in my teaching career, you should have no worry over the size of your child's letters. They will gradually adjust to the sizes of the lines they have to write on. Some students will write big in jotter book as the lines are wide apart. On Mental Sums book, they will write small to adjust to the lines. So no worries. 😉
What is more important if neatness... I know of some schools that take that into formal assessment for English.
These are some of the things the P1 English teacher may look out for:
      1) Spacing between words.
      2) Appropriate use of capital letters, i.e. in the beginning of Proper nouns and sentences
      3) Appropriate size of letters. For instance, if the 'p' in 'apple' is written as 'aPPle', teacher will mark it wrong. Or, if the letter 'e' in the 'apple' is the same size as 'l', strict teachers will also mark it wrong. Establishing good writing habits are very important for many teachers.
      4) Writing words as a 'whole'. Younger children may not be able to gauge if the word they are writing as fit into the remaining space on the line. They will usually write halfway and then continue the word on the second line. Parents may teach them to use a hypen to signal that the other half of the word is on the next line. This is not accepted. For instance, the child writes 'sent-' on the first line and continues the second part 'ence' on the next line. It's a no-no.

      Hopefully you find this useful.

Thanks a lot for ur valuable tips beauty79!

        :goodpost:
I need to focus on this, the problem is sometimes she can't cooperate with me. Today she did the ICR hw with me. She listened to me as her t scolded her in the last class. I hope she will learn from me more.

My son in p4 still his hand writing is illegible. In kindergarten, he refused to write cos he said he feel the hand painful. Still he can't write in three rule exercise book, first two lines are nice then others his own style. Very headache with him.

My dd is not lazy to write but doesn't cooperate.

Think many parents face the Same problem as you. Children are reluctant to see us as teachers, but mothers. See if you can insert fun elements in the learning.
For example, to encourage my DS1 to write, I start by getting him to label the things in the house. He will write nearly as I will put it up. I took photos of good work done, or in your case, neat work done and show it off in front of others deliberately. The point is to increase their motivation.
I had a P3 kid who was discouraged from trying to write nicely as he said no matter how hard he tried, it's not good enough. Even when he make the effort to make his characters look straight (it's Chinese words), the mum would erase away in 10 seconds what took him 10 min to write. Think the child very poor thing.
Must know when to pull and let go at times... Haiz... Bringing up children very much like flying a kite.

The problem with my son is his short attention. I’m starting to worry if he can sit thru class in p1 next year. Does anybody here have the same concern as I do?

                Hi coolmum552!

Today I asked my dd to shade the words as given. This book every chapter has the similar work. She said shade shade everyday shade? I don’t want to do. Then I said ok don’t do. Then she trace number 3. Her studies are not systematic.
I heard kids can’t concentrate more than half an hr. Give a break then continue. What is the kindy t said? If I remember correctly my son got the feedback in kondy but I forgot in k1 or k2. That time I was so confident and teach him.I didn’t believe in any negative comments. I just work hard. I read in the web and clear my doubts and focus on his studies. Now getting old and the confident level very low. When i taught in very small he caught faster But my dd didn’t. It’s make me like she can’t.hmmm… I gave to change my mind. She is a late bloomer.

                  Hi Smartmummy,

My DS can sometimes concentrate on his hw for half an hour or so…at times he will just write a few words n started to get distracted n do other things. He always like to go to other pages which he’s not required to do/have not learn yet n said he wanna do those. So I have to keep telling him that those are not what teacher wants for his hw. As for his handwriting, he has improved… at least it’s neater than before but still he will forget when to use upper case letter n when to use lower case. But again, since he has improved I’ll just hv to give him more time to practice. I praised him for his neat work n he will be happy.

Ya this is what I believe too. It really depends on their maturity n every kid is different. So let's guide them slowly n steadily though it's gonna be tough. Let's hang on!!! 😄
