if ask end K2 / P1 pupils write minimum 5 lines English compo, ok.

but if ask them write Chinese compo, tests standard ... ya, a bit high.

those who sat for last Sat tests, can kindly share & feedback format of the compo ?

i) is it based on 1 big main picture, OR
- based on 4 small pictures, which kids may have to think first & then arrange into the correct logical sequence of events one by one, before can start writing OR
- no picture at all ? just give a topic and ask pupils to write free style ?

ii) are there helping vocab key words provided at the bottom, give clue to help child write the compo OR
- no clue given, just write according to the picture ?

iii) how long is time given to write compo, out of 45 mins ?

Hi,

i m new to this chatroom and i have a question about SCGS and i hope that mummies who were old girls of SCGS or who have DDs in SCGS will not take offence to this question of mine. I have heard that SCGS is a school that teaches the girls to be 'tai-tais. I do not know how true this is, i have heard it from someone whose DD is also in SCGS; the principal actually told the girls this : " In life, there are 2 of the 3 things that you must possess… they are brains, good looks and money…, without any 2 of these 3 qualities, you will not go far in life." I was v shocked when i heard this but then again, i wasnt sure if this was really what the principal told the girls or if this is just some malicious rumours gg about the school. Have any mummies heard about this ? I have intended to send my DD to SCGS but i feel that perhaps i should really find out more about the school (other than just looking at affiliation etc). Really appreciate any input /feedbacks of mummies who have DDs in the school, thanks!!

I’m an old sec sch girl, and to my knowledge, the principle did not say such things to us nor encourage us to go in that direction. I guess it’s many people’s wish to be tai tai, I won’t mind to be one; but my friends around me all work for our livings. My workplace has quite a few old girls, and all are capable pp in their own right. Not sure which is the tai tai class.

But yes, there were rich kids amongst us (just not me) who came to school in chauffeured cars. But by and large, they are still nice people to know; and most of us went to school by public transport.

Thanks for your reply! Ya, i do know of some girls who were former students of SCGS and they are nice girls. No doubt about that.
Just abit disturbed when i heard about the remarks made by the principal ( which need to be verified!!)
In any case, i agree that most schools( especially schools located along the Bt Timah belt) will have kids who are from well-to-do families and that does not mean that they are more spoilt than the rest of the kids.

For those SCGS girls who are married, they are all tai tais. I am Chen Tai Tai to be specified ;-).

As an old girl of SCGS, I have never heard such things from the principals. What I have repeatedly heard from the past and present principals are that SCGS girls should strive to possess the necessary knowledge, skills, characters, integrity, etc to be responsible women who contribute to the society. I am not saying that rich tai tais are not responsible or not contributing to the society. But those teachings definitely do not suggest that SCGS girls are groomed to be tai tais. In fact, many SCGS girls are working professionals.

maybe SCGS girls are good in dancing. The school is very strong in all kinds of dance, femine manner. When people think of SCGS CCA, the first thing that come into our mind is \"dancing\". As such, the girls are well groomed, carry grace, articulate and confident. This is a good thing. As women, aren't we supposed to be femine and graceful ? This attraction somehow enable them to draw the attention of rich boyfriends easily and after marriage, they have the option choose to become tai tais / working professionals.
