FQW,since u mentioned abt the p4 child got killed coz of an accident…do u know that I saw 2 cases within 1 day at pei hwa, which can easily turn into another tragedy?
Saw a girl chasing & knocking on the door of her school bus,but bus auntie didn’t see nor hear her…there was no teacher/any staff around outside general office to help the girl…I was so shocked & frantically wave & shouted to the bus…finally bus stop to let her get on the bus…another granny saw the case also!!
But from my disappointing experience ,u think I should waste my time to feedback?
The same day, another student missed the bus, think general office helped her to call the driver who turned back to pick her…guess what I saw? The driver was very mad & scolded her fiercely!!so u understand why the other student chased the bus??
So how can we not be worried? If u are the 2 students’ parents ,how u feel??
In the 1st place, bus attendant didn’t tally headcount & driver just drive off!!2 cases in a row!! & why were there no school staff outside general office till all school bus drive off?
This situation can happen to any other student!!
Thanks for hearing!! -
cool_hi,
I totally agree that our children’s safety is precious; whether we have one child or 10 children, safety is equally impt to all of us. My only grudge is the unkind remark being stirred into the picture. These are 2 separate things.
You’ve apologised and that’s the end of it, agree? -

What about wushu?Tomorrow will be ds's first attempt at Track & Field. I hope we can have more success than the previous CCA. The good thing is that unlike bats, at least for track shoes, he can continue to make use of them. Get what I mean?
Seriously, I would have liked ds to take basketball or taekwondo, if only they're offered.
suprising that the school does not have CCA such as soccer and international chess as these are popular sports, and for chess it is low maintenance. -

that P4 boy incident is really sad. it was his right of way at pedestrian crossing and the car still knocked him down. what could he have done differently?
Personally, I don't mind paying more for bus operators to install seat belts and as compensation for their reduced income, caused by the reduction to their seating capacity. Nothing beats our children's safety right? At most instead of driving that luxurious car, I just continue to drive my laopok car lor.drickymummy:
Tot all sch basis compulsory to install belts regardless of bus sizes? The buses for my sch all have belts... Ds's bus which is also pretty big also have belts leh..maybe got confirm with LTA again?
Recently one P4 boy died crossing the road outside his school right? As parents, this type of things cannot afford to play-play; though I do see westerners allowing their young children to cross main roads by themselves. I guess it's just different culture. -

i remember last yr there was a small bus who fetched my son to school. he was running so fast and he even went over the curbs a few times when cornering. eventually after complaints from parents, i think the bus driver must have been sacked becos the bus and driver were changed after that.Jennifer,
No point de..Mr TEO was in the meeting also, with the principal & 1VP..all打官腔,the way they handle is just pushing us ard & worse, make us face the 'buay song' faces of driver & attendant! Coz they warned driver that actually want to sack him (coz we feedback that he drives quite fast thus we worried coz no seat belts, esp after accident)but will give him 1 chance..& I don't understand why principal didn't meet that parent,b4 meeting bus operator..should find out more from parents at meeting 1st & should not arrange to meet one after another! Very insensitive !! The parent was so shocked when she saw the bus operator, driver & attendant!!& they saw her also:(
I think the small bus driver's service generally better(so far from what I heard),more accomodating..aft knowing the gangster episode,I guess also probably coz they are the newer people who join the industry, less or no 'protection' than the pioneers(like the bus my girl forced to take)..so need to give better service coz not 铁饭碗! -

altho safety is most important, we also have to consider other parents who cannot afford to pay higher fees. now my sons' bus fees every month is $240, excluding those CCA days where they have to pay addtional for ad hoc trips. it is not a small sum for an average family..FQW, we did tell them we don't mind paying more for them to install seat belts, but they said per seat installation is ard $400,so for whole bus will be >$20k!? & this bus is very old already,so not wise to install in case time to scrap soon..
So 40-50 students' lives are not worth $20k:) sigh! -

i think there is no agreement, can quit anytime.Joyful hands,
Wow! So bus auntie got ask your girl for your name!!:) ya I also not much choice coz my best choice of swooping bus is dashed coz the other bus driver don't dare take us:( really 觉得很冤!
Think I will let my girl take for this yr,end of yr inform them not taking next yr..then next yr switch bus..hope they won't harass the bus driver if existing bus operator happen to find out I swop!sigh!
Btw anyone knows the agreement we signed with bus,was notification period stated? I lost mine:( -

The bus card (given out by the bus drivers or aunt nearing the end of the mth) should hv a page in small print whether advance notice is required. I believe one mth's notice is needed.

My boy would jump for joy if the sch has soccer/chess.
What about wushu?FQW:

1st, I dun mean to be insensitive and I do understand your concerns. I am equally disappointed that the sch and bus operator could not do more to help u & other parents in the same situation.Anyway, parents who r not in it,will not understand how we feel..
one of the parents, coz of no seat belts, chose to pick her child herself by public bus & mrt,coz her child always fall asleep on way home on bus..she's worried that her child will fall down from the seat..this year she really can't pick, thus join in to sign the letter..ok,fine!!i think we are just all too naive to believe that something can be done!!
When my elder boy transferred sch to Pei Hwa and had to take the sch bus, I was also worried abt the bus driver's driving skills, my boy sleeping on the bus-falling off or missing the stop to get down, etc. That was 2007 when seat belts were not compulsory and the small bus seemed to be very crowded. There were some occasions when I learnt from my boy that the bus broke down at he dunno where and another bus had to come collect the children.
My point is that it is natural for parents to worry abt such things. Our precious bundle now ferried to sch by sb we r unsure of his driving skills. My word for the driver before shutting the bus door was always \"Safe driving\".
2nd, I believe at some point in time, we need to provide learning chances for our children to take public transport on their own. My elder boy did it when he was in P6. I took whole of last year to train my younger boy. Now he goes to sch on his own most of the time and had to come back on his own a few times when I was busy with the hse renovation issues. The sch teachers hv been telling the pupils abt the sch boy who was knocked down by a car and my boy is aware of road safety is not sth anyone shld take lightly of.
Some car drivers just dun stop at pedestrian crossings. Just last mth, I was already mid way the traffic crossings, a car stopped at lane 2, lane 1 was empty. Suddenly a white BMW dashed out from lane 1. There was a car that was going to turn out from Toh Yi carpark. Sth made me stopped and looked at lane 1. If this BMW and the Toh Yi car would to crash, I surely wont be here anymore.
3rd, I think u shld consider either hse moving or sch changing. Reason- there is no guarantee that non-sch designated bus driver can keep his promise to continue ferrying your child up to P6. What abt supplementary lessons in P5/P6? Will u b prepared to go through the same for you 2nd child?
Lastly, I hv met with u in the past. I know u r a nice, easy to get along person. Sometimes we make a post when we r angry, we r likely to be more emotional in our post n sometimes there is a wrong choice of words used and that could cause some misunderstandings among pple. Remember your ksp nick Cool_hi? Try to calm down first. Issues can be more easily resolved when we r calm and could analyse with a clearer mind. :snuggles:
