Can anyone advise why passing philosophy is a must ? What is the rationale ? Thks!

philo is v interesting! It is part of critical thinking = daughter of a better age! Training to think and to ask question and to seek knowledge of the unknown to improve human & mankind--- hahaha….. That's one reason why when in RI (yr 5 - 6), most of Rafflesian can score distinction in GP paper! :rahrah:

During PE period, dd’s PE teacher asked who are in DSA sports. 3 squash and 2 basketball players have to run 1 more round.

Every school treats DSA students as though the students owe them something.
Students who DSA in SOTA and School of Sports are in the same boat.

Sports personnel so physical training must seen to be tougher than the rest.

If can reach national level the journey is worth it. The question is if unable to excel and graduated with below average A-levels grade that is too good to be retained and not good enough to even enter the least popular course in local unis. Those who will be on parents' scholarships need not hve to worry can just train and train but those from humble background will regret later. Far worst than their peers who graduated from polys.

Anw all entered with their eyes open. This renown instituition provides them with the opp to showcase themselves in public for a 6-yr period.

The school provides them with numerous opp and they just hve to win medals for them. It's a fair exchange.

Not me, my friend's DD. I post for her since she too shy to post, she reads only and ask me to post her questions, haha

Your DD must be DSA RG then, understand there are quite a number of Yr 1 who got DSA RG. That was the concern of my friend too, her DD no experience in GYM, so afraid that she goes in there to fill up the nos. only and do not get to participate in competitions in ally 4 years because the DSA ones and those who hv been doing GYM since Primary School wld be so much better than the 'Freshies' with no experience and training, do a sport CCA & do not get to participate in actual competition a bit like no point.

She also hearsay that Gym, both RG and Artistic Gym, will stunt or at least delay growth.

And lastly, because of her lack of knowledge and familiarity with RG, she afraid that the DD's classmates will think that RG not really a sport or not 'cool' amongst the kids.. haha

Aiya, anyway, please pardon my and my friends ignorance of Rhythmic Gym ... thanks really for the effort in replying our questions..

                Dear friendship,

Pardon me for saying this, but i think that we should all be optimistic and be happy with what we have. Entering RGS, through sports/academics/PSLE, anything, as long as you get into RGS, you are already amazing enough.

If you keep looking at what others have and you don't, you will forever find yourself inadequate. Then why not look at what you have? Don't just count your losses(in this case, there is none. I mean, i wouldn't want to run one more round._.)but your blessings too! Be thankful that your DD is one in soo many girls in Singapore to have made it into RGS.

It may seem unfair for the Sports DSA pupils, but were they complaining? One more round should mean nothing much to them, actually. And yes, the school let's them join, but it's like an exchange thing. You do well and bring glory, they train you and let you join the school.

The DSA pupils didn't DSA here to be like treated as if RGS owes them something!

And after all, everyone came in based on their abilities. It's not like anyone cheated. It really is fair for everyone in this sense. Talents are recognised too, you know. So if you keep thinking that your DD is not given fair opportunities and want them, then she has to outshine the rest by working hard on her own? Because everyone earned their opportunities themselves:)

                    Dear friendship,

I'm wondering if your dd is as negative as you in her experience in RGS or is she enjoying herself? If she's having a good time, please don't let your negativity affect her. Looking on the bright side of things helps tremendously in getting a teenager through new friends, new subjects and a new school.

Philo is compulsory as it is good preparation for GP in JC, but more for KI actually. It will give everyone an edge over the rest when we all go to JC, as by that time we would have been trained to be quick on our feet and plan rebuttals/find loopholes well.

And...philo is very very interesting okay! It's actually very enjoyable, if you want to enjoy it! Okay I think philo is a bit boring in my sec 1 year, but as your dd go on to sec 2/3, it will be awesome as we learn about moral ethnics/logic! It will become more of a lecture style as you go on (like now sec 4 is currently learning about the history of virtue, so it's more lecture-ish style.) It's still awesome. Actually I liked the small class size before this year a lot better. Now it's a whole class talking about the same issue-groups are a bit too big and very rojak and noisy, and you don't really get the chance to speak.

P.S. a child, I know who you are. I am very very 100% sure. And... JUNIORS, DO NOT GIVE YOUR JUNIORS EVIL IDEAS! DO NOT CONTAMINATE THEIR PURE MINDS...yet>< hehe.

                      :thankyou:
