I am a mum whose girl is in Y1.

then i supposed that you went for the briefing on the i pad. Then , can i ask you about whether will there be any supplier coming down to school to sell the ipad or order through a form and how much the ipad will roughly cost?

This is what I perceived from the briefing meant for Y1:
The Y1 and maybe Y2 are strongly encouraged to buy iPad2.
The upper levels including Y5 and Y6 may be buying iPad3 (because rumours said iPad3 may be launching soon but nobody knows when) but possibly of lower priority because these students will be concentrating on A levels (instead of figuring out how to use this device).
If you buy from school, then I guess you will enjoy some discount because the school buys in bulk.
I have ordered iPad2 with 16GB at $768 (?) during the 1st half of Jan.

Just received news dated 31 Jan that this iPad 1to1 programme in 2012 is meant for Y1 to Y4 students.
Nothing was mentioned about Y5.

RV featured in the newspapers for all the wrong reasons... sad :sad:

I wonder if the media was present at the meeting or if the proceedings of the meeting was recorded and presented to them?

Personally I feel this is negative publicity for the school... shouldn't air dirty linen in public.

I am sure the reasons for RV implementing the usage of iPad are good but somehow the message was not brought across clearly and accurately.

The news articles certainly did not put RV in a positive image.
I wonder why other schools did not seem to have this issue.

Why are those parents so angry? What’s their major issues? Cost of ipad or afraid kids will become addicted?

The article was in The New Paper yesterday too. The printed article was much longer and talked about a Sec 2 parent who raised his voice during the meeting.

Parents question use of iPad in school

THE shouting match over iPad2s did not take place in a dodgy electronics shop between a sleazy salesman and a tourist.

Instead, it took place in one of Singapore’s top secondary schools between some parents and school authorities.

River Valley High School (RVHS) plans to get all of its 2,800 students and teachers to use Apple’s hand-held tablet computer for lessons.

And the furious exchange took place when some parents questioned the decision during a briefing session. Their concerns also included the device’s cost - about $700– and access to unsuitable material on the Net.
