Wat r his options after d rumour went viral?

a)\tAdmit. If he admits, he opens himself to civil suits for adultery fr aggrieved parties.

b)\tLie. Yves Saint Laurent can’t do a Bill Clinton’s ‘I did not hv sexual relations with dat woman’ with a straight face. His credibility will be shot to bits n he will not survive d political fallout if truth is found out otherwise.

c)\tBully d rumour monger into submission - d truth is not d truth.
Like wat ex NFK CEO did to Archie. But u can’t do dis without deep pockets n a big mountain behind u.

d)\tDeny emphatically – only if he has no skeletons in d closets or believes d truth will be perpetually well contained.

e)\tNeither deny nor cfm – keep it in d realm of rumours.

If in slightest doubt, (e) is d option of choice until such time when irrefutable proof or circumstances force an admission.

As circumstances now dictate, Saint Laurent n WP chose d path of least potential damage.

3Boys is shooting at crows in d trees with a shotgun. (For those who don’t oredi know, a shotgun shell disperses hundreds of pellets, killing all crows within range indiscriminately).

        Please elaborate.

        Quite clear fr limlim's posts, at least to me, dat he will only be thoroughly convinced of YSL's infidelity if d rumour can be substantiated;
but u insists dat he is in a state of denial, group all WP supporters as prejudiced ,biased n myopic in their views.

:goodpost: Thus far, this is the closest to what I have in mind. I can't write better than this.

What they are hoping for, by lying low, is for die-hard supporters to slowly start to rationalise to themselves that this is all a PAP conspiracy, and that there is malicious reporting by the press, and it is all falsehood.

They did not say it was falsehood. They are hoping that their supporters will form that impression in their mind
, as you apparently already have.

d parts in bold sounds like a general sweeping statement to me.

I said THEY, as in the WP leadership, are HOPING their supporters will form that impression.

In what way does that impute that ALL, or even a significant number, of WP supporters will buy that story?

Here is now a sweeping statement. WP supporters are being subtly taken advantage off by the WP leadership. Some, perhaps many, are aware of this and are quietly feeling discomforted. Others, perhaps blinded by loyalty, feel the need to alter their own world view or values (infidelity does not matter, as long as they can do their jobs.....oh please!) jut so that they can continue to keep their heroes on a pedestal.

Why do I say this? Because although I am a supporter of g'ment policies, I am a supporter of WP myself also. Mostly for what Mr LTK is and stands for. I was most elated that heady day when he was first elected into Hougang, and was thrilled when he took Aljunied GRC.

I had elected very early on not to enter this thread, because I do not feel like engaging in the more salacious bits of rumor-mongering, and also that I am not in any position to judge YSL's conduct or cast stones. I still do not judge him, I can only lament the weaknesses of men.

However, the street-fighting, political savvy of Mr LTK and the WP machinery took over. Instead of living the values of 'Transparency' (much repeated by the WP campaigners), a cynical gag campaign was engaged instead.

If its untrue, then DENY DENY DENY. Why no denial? They do not care that their image is being dragged through the mud?

The WP has come down a few notches in my estimation for their cynicism, and Mr LTK in particular.

The other reason I chose to enter the fray was that their tactic was actually working! They have not issued a SINGLE DENIAL to this point, but they have depended on the loyalty of some their supporters (and cognitive dissonance) to allow that seed of doubt grow into outright denial.

You don't think this type of thing has an impact on political performance?

Have any of you checked the WP website in the last 2 weeks?

They have been active posting stuff from MRT disruptions, to use of void decks, PM's National Day speech, ISA and the like.

Where have the posts been on the recent corruption allegations on the top civil servants?

              ......anyone?

              Deafening silence.

The whole party has been paralysed by this affair. Until they get past it, they cannot function effectively as a 'check and balance'.

You are a staunch WP supporter? Here's a tip for you. Demand accountability and transparency from the leadership. Don't sit back and allow them to abuse you with their cynicism. Be critical, don't close ranks reflexly. Mr LTK is a streetfighter, his instinct is to close ranks, it is the wrong tactic as the party grows and takes on more expectations. They don't need to just keep YOUR support, to grow, they need to win over many many others, which are not going to cut them the same slack you do.

[/quote]I am not a staunch supporter but I have a few words about accountability and transparency. If the matters involve a politician's work as an MP or if anyone in a political party is suspected of corruption (like those two guys who were recently suspended), of course, the people involved should be accountable and transparent.

Should politicians be accountable to us for their private affairs? That's a grey area. :scratchhead:

To the best of my knowledge, Singapore doesn't have any examples of politicians who were forced to be explicit in confessing their personal affairs in public. No one forced Minister Shanmugam to be transparent about his rumoured mistress. Neither had anyone told Goh Keng Swee to be accountable to us about what transpired between him and his wife that led to their divorce. :lightrod:

And I believe no one would ask PM Lee Hsien Loong to be transparent and give us an open account of how his wife got a heart attack at such a young age.

I think the private affairs of politicians should remain private, unless they have broken the law.

If voters are unhappy with a politician and think that having affairs speaks poorly of his character, they can vote for someone else at the next GE. But to demand that he accounts to us for his private life may be asking too much of him.

Errrrrrr, oh wait ..... if I am following this thread correctly, there is still no proof/conclusion that S stands for Saint or Sin, no???? 😉
                        S = Sin gapore

and the 3-letter international code for Singapore Changi airport is = SIN
