Another issue I am concerned is the number of resources allocated to Science subject. When I looked at my gals' time table (P3 and P4), they have 2.5 hr of science lesson weekly. Given that Science has the same weightage as other subjects in the exam, shouldn't the school allocate more lessons for Science?
At the end of P4, students are selected to take either standard or foundation subjects. Bottom line is, EXAMS RESULTS DO MATTER regardless of all those talk about holistic education...it's pure bullshit of MOE to tell parents about HOLISTIC :stupid: . The 4 standard subjects at P5 was hell time last year for all of us.
Science and Math carry same weightage but Chinese and English are still given more emphasis because there are components like oral and compo.
My son in P5 last year didn't have Science lessons everyday either. -

That's when many parents hit the PANIC button and start to source for tutors.
I dread to think of my daughter in P3 next year. She is slow as it is, with Science introduced, I am going to have many panic attacks. -

She is not stupid or what but she takes a longer time to grasp ideas and given that her language is weak - that hinders her to learn faster than her peers. Her Science result was borderline pass last year, and it does not help that she has no keen interest in Science topics. And IJ English standard is quite high..so now she has been struggling with compre, compo and now Cloze...hiaz...I need to push her at P4 so that she will not struggle that much in P5...Maths is a nightmare in P5 I was told...but I shall leave it till next year..my utmost important and immediate task is to bring her science result to the band 2 or at least average 60s.. -

My P2 girl needs lots of reminders and yet her brain is like a sieve

Before I can revise what has been taught, I have to remind her what we had taught previously like comparative adjectives or singular/plural nouns BEFORE we can move on. That takes up time and by then she is tired to go on.
I definitely understand what you mentioned :hugs: ...going through same problem now. Am pushing her a little more this year...bcos I didn't do that last year as my son in P5 was struggling.
P4 and P5 are worlds apart...but don't frighten your daughter.
My son's Science in P3/4/5 was stuck in the 60 range and just couldn't bring it up. Faced with no choice, I got him a tutor bcos I cannot afford to see that one subject pull all the others down. -

I am glad that the school teachers for P1 and P2 are very affectionate, patient and forgiving. But when come to P3-4, the teachers are not so \"kind\" anymore..haha. And the class size increases - the gals have to learn to be more attentive in class.

Hi bebe,
When daughter goes to P3, will her patient/caring/affectionate teachers become the opposite...ie from lambs to tigresses ? :rotflmao:
Think my daughter will have a culture shock if that happens. -
janet_lee88:
I think the nicer teachers are at P1-P2..I think at P3, teachers already set their expectation on their behavior eg responsibility - my gal had to stay back for recess as she forgot to complete her homework. But not to worry, teacher will not scream or yell at them..at least I have heard none of such incidents from my gals.Hi bebe,
