Just visited LSH at Ulu Pandan. The place is clean. But some classrooms are having low partition wall (low cupboard as partition) makes the classroom messy.
If I am not wrong, LSH@KV will also have low partition. They showed us an artist's impression of the centre during the briefing, and it seemed that there would not be proper classrooms but segments divided by cabinets.
lzxuan:
That's why when Fion told me that you were keen to know the qualification of the teachers, I was a bit sceptical. :? They could tell you that 80% are Diploma holders while 20% are Degree holders, but where did these teachers get their certificate, who knows? The teachers qualification, some are graduated from China, India, Indonesia, etc. Some are certificate holders. For LV, those English teachers mostly are local diploma.
lzxuan:
Sounds quite messy to me, too. Maybe should ask LSH whether this will be applied to Kent Vale centre, too.Teacher in K2 was still reading out loudly the spelling for the children. N2 children located at another partition just opposite K2 are sleeping. Don't really like this open concept, would still prefer individual classrooms.
Actually, as far as I know, it depends on the location of the centre when it comes to whether there are proper classrooms or not. E.g. I visited LV centre in MND a few years back. The centre was structured exactly the same way as what you observed in LSH@UP. However, LV@NUS has proper classrooms.lzxuan:
Yes, LV doesn't teach Hanyu Pinyin. I am puzzled where my son picked that up, though. :?The K2, they were taught on Hanyu pinyin, money calculation, Cheng yu (chinese idioms). Not sure LV chinese syllabus contains these. As I understand from a parent that her son graduated last year from LV, they were not taught of Hanyu pinyin and her son is having hard time catching up with it in P1. Qms, can comments?
In the LV thread, another parent from LV@NUS said that her son had no problem coping in primary school, though.
All I can say is that LV is rather weak in Maths, as far as my son is concerned. Maybe it's just my son.
In view of the above, I thought it might be better for my girl if we opt for LSH. -

All parents whose children are in LV@NUS will definitely have confirmed places in LSH@KV. This was told to us specifically. -
Hi lzxuan!
With regards to the classrooms, Patricia's reply is as follows:
LSH @ Kent Vale will only carry out minor renovation works such as painting of the interior, repair works from 31st Dec to 2nd Jan.
For phase 2 renovation, it is unlikely that we will tear down all classrooms though we are unable to determine and assess the scope of work at the moment.
In any case, in all LSH centres, we keep a balance between classrooms and open spaces. -
hi qms,
So i think the design of the LSH centre will more or less remain as it is.
My husband don really like LV curriculum N yesterday the malay lady said LV teachers mostly communicate in English not in chinese. And they don really have Maths lesson as well. So he thought maybe sending my son to LSH at Ulu Pandan since we cant get a vacancy in Kent vlue. -
Hi Qms,

Hi Fion!
Maybe the Malay lady who spoke to you yesterday was the Admin. staff.
\"LV teachers mostly communicate in English not in Chinese\". Well, I think it makes sense, right? If the teacher is a English teacher, you will want her to speak in English, not Mandarin, right? Don't you think the child will get confused if his English teacher speaks to him in Mandarin? All Chinese teachers speak to the children in Mandarin. So, in this aspect, I don't see any problem. In fact, this is what LSH does. During the briefing, Patricia mentioned that their English teachers were required to speak in English only, so as not to confuse the children. If this is your husband's concern, perhaps you would like to tell him to be prepared to face this type of situation in other centres, too, be it LV or LSH.Fion Loh:
Actually, your son is still so young. Is there a need to send him all the way to Ulu Pandan just to enjoy the curriculum offered by LSH? :? For me, my priority for my child at this age would be for him to socialise and get to know more friends. So he thought maybe sending my son to LSH at Ulu Pandan since we cant get a vacancy in Kent vlue.
If you are really concerned with the curriculum, you could very well put him in another centre when he is older.
Just my two cents. At the end of the day, of course, it is a decision you and your husband will have to make for your boy. -
