We are overseas Singaporeans will soon be heading home. Child will be back for secondary school. He has expressed interest in giving NUSH a shot. He has been top in Science and above average for Math. (The school here follow the SG syllabus and uses SG textbooks)

Anyone has kids here who have sat for the selection test for NUSH? Care to share? As we will be flying home for the test, I would like to know how best I can help him as he will not have time to attend any preparation course.

On what grounds, would you advise a child not to go for it?

      THANKS A HEAP

:scared: :nailbite: I guess you must be a student. Can you tell me more about yourself (if you don't mind). How's your school work? What are your usual marks for Math and Science tests?

I really need to know cos' it will be an expensive test for my kid as we have to fly to and fro. Airfare for 1 adult and 1 kid and if my kid makes it thru the test, that will be another camp and that means another round of flying.

I do apprecaite all kinds of inputs. THANKS!

If you read through this thread plus the one on DSA, you'll find a lot of parents sharing about their experience with DSA at NUSH.

THANKS have read thru them but seems like we are the only overseas Singaporean returning to do the DSA.

                  Hi"Kamom",

Is Toh Chin Leong still around?

Are you taking PSLE in SH?

The test is not text-book things.1st round is quite simple for
those with OM. 2nd round camp is tougher.
Has nothing much to do with what you had studied in school.
Unless your child is OM, creative or spontaneous reaction,
he would be able to handle very well.

You should check with the school on formal procedure & arrangement,
since you are coming back from overseas school.
You may not be the only one. There are quite a number of similiar
                  cases going to NUSH.

Hi, DD read through lower secondary science textbooks prior to the test, and did some Math Olympiad workbooks. She was also part of the E2K science program in her primary school, so i guess that helped as she is already used to the concept of coming up with her own experiments to test scientific concepts.

                        Hope that helps.

One month+ into the school term, it has been good so far. She enjoys school and does her work independently (used to have to push her to finish her work in primary school). Some of the science stuff she is doing is pretty challenging. Her primary school teacher was pleasantly surprised when she told them she doesn't read under her desk or fall asleep in class anymore.

The environment is also not as competitive as in top schools, and most kids get a chance to be in the CCA of their choice.

I think if you are looking for an environment that is academically challenging but not fiercely competitive, NUSH may be a choice to consider.
