Hi izmum, if I were you, I will try to enlarge my child’s social circle as much as I can. Usually I’ll get my children to get familiar faces at the coffee shop or in the lift. You can get him to pay money or collect the receipt for purchases. That may earn him a praise or a smile and it may encourage him to open up more. I will also about what he likes to do. My DS2 loves books. Getting him to read on someone else’s lap will be easier to achieve than another less loved activity. At home, I build independence in my kids by getting them to play on their own as much as it’s possible. When my child is playing with a toy, I will not interrupt as he needs to learn to be less dependent as he grows.

        Hi,

my daughter was borned Aug 2010. now doing her trial for 1/2-day childcare n seems traumatised as when she is home these days, she is super clingy n cries when she cant see my mum or I within her peripheral vision (we could be somewhere else in the house…), keeps wanting to be carried, nurses for comfort frequently, wakes up crying at nite often…wondering if i shld juz enrol her in parent-assisted enrichmt classes instead…

my daughter was like that during the 1st month. she will cry at night and super clingy to me and my mother.

after the 1st month, she was ok and enjoys herself.but she still cry when i drop her off at the childcare. she has spent 2 months in full-day childcare.

DS now ok le.. happy to go to school (childcare).. no more crying.. teachers praised him for being able to speak well..and he is coming back with songs he picks up from school..

gonna have a small celebration for his 2yo birthday next week, so that he has more sweet memory of his school..

thebakehouse, it takes awhile for them to adjust to the new environment, it's inevitable that we feel real bad when seeing them cry and clingy , some even have night mare like mine during the first mth, he is fully toilet trained, but after he attended childcare on the first month, he peed on bed at night, few nights in a row.. so have to put diapers back for him.. now is getting better diaper dried for days at night..

perservere... she will learn to like the new school 🙂
