yup everyone knows that. On politics of course the leash is very tight. the slap on the wrist or butt is always swift and decisive haha. only those who subscribe to the emotional blackmail that the press should function for the good of the country for stability blah blah get anywhere near management levels.

Agree. TR has become so polarised that it has very little credibility to me. It's mainly those who are so blinded and blinkered by total hatred for the ruling party who choose to believe everything they read there. Prob the same demographic to the contributors.
Much prefer TOC. Even though it's certainly not all gospel truth, at least their reporting is more responsible, and they seek to give a balanced view that is sorely lacking in MSM esp when it comes to politics. whatever you say abt MSM, ultimately their core biz is to sell papers, to make sure the advertising revenue comes in. I'd say toeing the MIW line is usually secondary, though still necessary.
the MIW like to say that the online community is usually unfair to them. But Sgporeans are not ALL completely biased, not all ranters hiding under anonymity of keyboard warrioring. Of course there are some. But I believe the majority are not hatred-stoking, sh*t-stirring rumour mongers out there to propagate conspiracy theories. Give the ppl more credit. there are ppl who are fair to MIW, and will not believe that they can only do wrong and that the opposition can do no wrong.
As this case has proven, both backyards face the same human issues, that any of us could be faced with. It's not that one side is more or less moral than the other. just shows that both are made of fallible humans.
No real views on whether WP should have been more upfront, clarify, own up, move on. Perhaps their loud silence is also a reflection on how taken unawares , taken aback they were by this whole episode. Too shocked to know how to put the right spin on it to appear 'right' to the electorate. Which also bodes well in a way. Shows that our politics is not as smarmy as overseas politics where the spinning (and smearing of the other party at every opportunity to detract attn?) would have begun immediately.
When PAP came into power, LKY recognized one of d tenets to maintaining power is to muzzle d press to do its bidding.

Yes, u r right if it's actually 'rumors'... But, rumor applies only to the 3rd person, & not the 1st person. Therefore, it's right for LTK to call this a rumor, but it's not right for YSL to call this a rumor. He is the one being accused, so if anyone, he should know if this accusation is true or fabrication... He must understand that, as an elected MP, his constituents trusted him enough to elect him in, therefore, he is totally accountable, whether it be a private or public matter. As I have mentioned, if an MP can lie or cheat his or her spouse, who is the closest person to him/her, then he will have little to stop him from doing same to his constituents, who r not as close to him/her. On top of that, it's political suicide, as henceforth, YSL, LTK et al will no longer have credibility if they call on any individual & or any political party to be transparent or accountable... Instead, look at what is at stake here...I'm sure Marcos was once considered a National Hero, then look @ what happened. We hv to know tt our leader is Transparent & Accountable. When Marcos syphoned $$$ into his \"private\" acct, is that a private affair, or is he indeed accountable to his voters? Wld u hv liked to know before it got too late &, before u knew it, ur daughters & sons hv to be sent to a foreign country to earn foreign reserve for their beloved country whose leaders betrayed them. it is to this end tt we need our elected to be transparent, & if wrongly maligned, to come out & strongly deny it. Though YSL and WP are still saying ‘no comment’, I think we have enough factual information to read between the lines regarding the alleged EMA. I am not comfortable and I cannot trust politicians who are morally unsound, never mind he/she is criminally clean. They are in a position to shape policies and it has significant bearing on how our country will progress. We expect them to be of higher standard and rightly so. ANY politician who involved in EMA should just step down. They can have EMA for all they want in their private life. They are answerable to their conscience, their family but nothing to do with constituents. Once they enter politic, they have to be able to stand on moral high ground. No such thing as clear demarcation of public life and private life. It’s not possible. I have a feeling we are so forgiving toward EMA because a lot of us are guilty of it. It’s very sad.

Wow! This discussion has spanned so many pages. Decided finally to speak up: my stand is that engaging in EMA is wrong and should not be condoned. It tells of the integrity of a person – one who can retract his or her words, annul promises made…
A marriage vow is a contractual agreement between 2. If one party defaults due to EMA, it’s unacceptable and what’s worse in this case, there is no acknowledgement of fault and no apologies rendered –> meaning no sense of remorse on the guilty party.
Many may try to speak up and say that the rumours are untrue and not proven but I feel that the very fact that the person involved has not dispelled it, points to the reality of what has happened.
It does not matter which political party the person comes from or even if that person is involved in politics or not… my viewpoint and stand remains.
