During CNY a parent bandied this Pri 2 qn about:

An 11 yr old little girl asked an older lady how old she was. Her reply "When you are my age I will be 35. So how old am I now?"

Short qn but no less difficult. Certainly requires a gd grasp of the english language!

the adults were twisting their heads around it… I managed to figure out the answer thru trial and error in a few mins… but without heuristics training I really wonder how I’m gonna teach my kid this… sigh.

I don't know how to get the answer... :oops:

algebra is fastest.

6x + 4x = 30.
10x = 30
x = 3

chickens = 6x = 18
ducks = 4x =12

but if u draw the model, it'll be very clear.
Poor kids!!!Why make life so difficult for them!!

who ever set this kind of maths questions need to reflect!!! Is it nesscessary??

:mad: :mad:

the so called 'challenging' questions to further 'push' our kids to 'think out of the box' :siao:
understandable why kids are so stressed nowasdays :sad:

So at P1, the kids language skills and analytical skills have to be honed. If not, catch no ball.
By doing so, does it make our kids smarter?
Today's kids are the test bed of MOE’s experimentation system to excel.

i think a matter of time parents would need to seek treatment in IMH as well!!!! esp those having kid doing PSLE!!
😢

You would still have to understand what :\"The number of chickens in each of the six baskets was equal to the number of ducks in each of the four baskets\" means?

:nailbite: P4 learning algebra?

The answer is 23. The lady is currently 23 yo. Rite? But I dunno how to use models.

11 + 12 = 23
23 + 12 = 35

I ask my ds. He said 23. 35-11=24 . then he said 24÷2=12 then add by 11 which is 23.
