Xuelin Learning Hub - Discussion

Hi Tall172 and Coolit,
Thanks for your feedback on Xuelin. By end of this year, i need to decide if i want to continue with Berries or Xuelin for K1 next year. My cousin has highly recommended Busy Bees, who only takes students from K1. Her son is Pri 2 in ACS, and has been selected for Higher chinese. Anyone compared Xuelin vs Busy Bees?
I want my daughter to have a good foundation in Chinese, so twice a week Chinese lesson is a must for her.
Have you tried Berries? They really do present Chinese in a fun way, that kids like. But of course, the down side is the class size. -
Pixy, you are welcome

Didn't try busy bees before... As for berries, I get negative feedbacks from other parents and 1 of my fren who send to their nursery class found it not useful whereby she also withdraw her son.
- the class have 16 children and is difficult to get every kids engaged
- they change their teachers too frequently (experienced 3 teachers for his son)
So i decided not to try out. And since my gal is doing well and enjoying her times in xue lin, we just stick to it. Also, parents at xue Lin told me that when the kids promote to primary classes, the level of difficulty increases and kids will be very stressful that may hinder their interest in the language. However, on all my visits to xue Lin, I didn't see any stressful or unhappy looking one...
After all that is what we want to see, rather than forcing them to go to lessons which they find it a chore to do so... We want her to have fun and yet learn something in the process. -
Hello Pixy, I had sent my kid to Busy Bees in Thomson for 6 mths only. Too much repetition and learn very little new stuffs. She dreaded going and I had to fight with her. My friend pulled her daughter out of BB after P5 SA2, after realizing that she can’t write a decent compo. I don’t recommend BB as I feel that their approach does not build the students’ interest in learning Chinese, in fact dampening them as my kid had experienced.

Can anyone recommend where to go, Tienhsia or Xuelin? How is Tienhsia in Bishan? Can anyone advise? I don’t want to waste time going to a wrong place or on shuttling. We are in Thomson & it’s really a distance to go to Xuelin, be it Bukit Timah or Katong!

Hi Tall172
Thanks for your feedback about berries. My experience with berries @ pacific plaza has been good so far. The Chinese teacher who taught my daughter n1, has continued teaching her in N2.

Opps. Fat fingers… Accidentally hit the submit button
Hi Ammon
Thanks for your feedback abt busy bees. Will not consider BB, since you feel their method does not stimulate interest in Chinese.
Hi lim_ks
Cannot comment on Tienhsia, as I have not tried it.

The lady boss, and zhu Lao Shi called me this week, and updated me on my daughter’s progress! Wow! Impressed! They then followed up with an email, sending me a video of my daughter singing a Chinese song. I am so encouraged to help my daughter love Chinese. -

How old is your child? For tienhsia, just like with most of the centres, it is better to start them younger, I find that if you enrol at a later stage and your child is struggling with chinese, then both tienhsia and xuelin are a little too advanced for such kids. -
I have P2, P1 & K1. I can’t run to many trips to Xuelin even I know they are good. Worse when my P2 will have 2 classes next year, 4 trips per week! I understand Xuelin is getting very popular, will they still have the same passion or committment as now when they grow? It’s really a distance for me.
Can anyone tell me how is Tian Hsia in Bishan? I have mixed feedback from friends. -
Hi lim_ks,
In choosing an enrichment centre, i will always consider distance and convience. If you can ferry your 3 kids around (or have some help), then i think Xue Lin is worth considering.
FYI - Bukit Timah road is always jammed up on weekday evenings, and weekends. Expect longer travelling time.
