It is ok not to listen to him talking these days but it is imperative to understand his worry and concern. He may not have prescribed the \"right\" solutions or it is the execution that is wrong(since he does not do the execution) but his ability to envision the potential threats and issues is still valid. -

You are right ksi. He's grandpa - listening to grandpa's on-going advice may sound like a nag sometimes, but it is amazing how this grandpa is still able to raise eyebrows with the things he says :salute: I like his spirits. Well, if we accept immigrants, it doesn't mean they have more kids. Those that get pr or citizenship around me also have one kid. And then they bring their aged folks with themto take care of the kid.
So for that one child, we get extra 2 old people, 2 middle aged people. Ummm, like that how will the population stay young?
Someone I knew, a PRC married to a local man after only 2 meetings, told me she is just waiting for her irritating (in her words) MIL to die and then she will make her husband sell the flat, give her the money, apply for a new flat and then rent the flat out while they live like the Royals back in China. And no, she is not going to have anymore Sg kids to help our declining birth rate.

MOSCOW (AFP) - Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Monday vowed to reverse Russia's demographic decline and boost its population to 154 million, as he ramped up his re-election campaign in the face of protests.
In a new campaign article addressing his core constituency including employees of state companies and blue-collar workers, Mr Putin also promised salary hikes to teachers and doctors and pledged to create a more just state.
Mr Putin reeled off a list of social policies that he said could reverse a demographic decline and boost Russia's current population that has now dwindled to nearly 143 million and which he said risked falling to just 107 million.
'In a global sense we are facing the risk of turning into an 'empty space' whose fate will not be decided by us,' Mr Putin said in an article published on his campaign website.

even if Singaporeans give birth to 4 children now, it will still take a good 25 years before these children grow up and make themselves useful to society. Meanwhile what happens in these 25 years?
It is just nonsensical to point fingers at declining birth rates. The government wants these numbers immediately; not wait for 25 years.
We; some 25-35 years ago, when we were born; weren't our parents told to stop at 2? -
