There were thrice as many rabbits as puppies left. There were 26 fewer kittens left than the rabbits left. How many rabbits and puppies were sold?

In the end, the number of animals left is:

Rabbits ----- 3 units
Puppies ----- 1 unit
Kittens ------ 3 units – 26

7 units ------ 65+26 ------91
1 unit ------ 13

Number of rabbits left ------ 3*13 ------ 39
Number of puppies left ------- 13

Number of kittens at first ------ 13+35 ------- 48

Number of rabbits sold ------ 48 – 39 ------ 9
Number of puppies sold ------- 48 – 13 ------ 35

The answer is (35+9) or 44

Kassim had 3 times as many stamps as Peiling. Leonard had 82 stamps more than Peiling. Kassim then sold 106 of his stamps and Leonard bought another 50 stamps. Kassim and Leonard had an equal number of stamps in the end.

a) How many more stamps did Kassim have than Peiling in the end?
Ans:132

b) How many stamps did the three of them have altogether in the end?
Ans: 621

In MD, I always have problem determining where to place the give away number and the additional bought. Appreciate your help pls.

Due to time constraints. I’ll give some pointers instead of drawing MD.

1)Draw 3 boxes to show Kassim’s stamps.

2)Draw 1 box to show Pei Ling’s stamps

3)Draw I box + 82 to show Leonard’s stamps.

4)Move 106 from end of the third box and draw a vertical line to cut all 3 MD.

5)Add 50 to Leonard(1 box+82) to touch vertical line drawn in (4)

6) Now we can see 2 units ------ 82+50+106 ----- 238
1 unit ------ 119

In the end

Kassim ------- (3*119) – 106 ------ 251 stamps left
Pei Ling ------- 119

251 – 119 ------ 132

In the end

Kassim ------- 251
Leonard ------ 251
PL ------- 119

Total number of stamps -------- 621

In the end
Rabbits : Puppies : Kittens
3U : 1U : 3U - 26

Given that in the end, there were 65 animals left:

7U – 26 = 65
7U = 91
1U = 13

Number of Rabbit and puppies left in the end ------ 4 Units = 52


At first
Kittens ----- (3U – 26)+35
= 39 – 26 + 35
= 48

Number of Rabbits and Puppies at first ----- 48 + 48 =96

96 – 52 = 44

44 rabbits and puppies were sold.

462049 - this will round to 462000 to nearest 100 and to nearest 1000 whereas 462499 will round to 462500 to nearest 100 and 462000 to nearest 1000
