        Hi\"Kamom\",

CL Toh told me abt iPSLE in 2007-08.Remembered he said the
top students pool scored between 250-256, while our ds were studying
in SH.......but I did not buy this iPSLE idea somehow.....
I have no idea now.Do you have update?
You have to decide whether you want to aim for PSLE-S1 posting or
        spend time trying via DSA.

What \"dagong99\" & \"tiggermum\" said were true of what is
happening after 1.5month in Yr 1.
But the competitiveness is \"invisible\", maybe you'd feel that in Yr5-6.

The professeur de français and his lesson is very interesting and fun.
        Hi Coddington
Like Kamom, I am also a Singaporean mom living in Shanghai, my ds is due for PSLE next year and we are also interested to enrol him to NUSH. Can you share with us at which grade did your ds return to Singapore and the DSA journey to NUSH?
Sorry for asking so many questions and thanks in advance 😄

DS is currently in Grade 5 hence 2013 is his PSLE year. He is currently in Shanghai High International (上中)and was in local school from Grade 1 to 3. Like Kamom mentioned, we do not really have chance to enrol in Singapore related Maths contest, perhaps only the APMOP next year. He is very strong in Mathematics, top the cohort in both the Chinese local school and the current school. He is also very strong in weiqi, going Dan 1 and taking ABRSM piano grade 6 this year (not sure if all these help).

              Hi\"Song22\",

Suggest you quickly check (call) with NUSH to find out if you can
register your ds into NMOS 2012.(the paper is set by NUSH,
              is a very good benchmark.)
The period for registration is from 1st March to 30th April 2012, 8 pm.

              http://oas.highsch.nus.edu.sg/NMOS/rules.htm

The other option is to register via Maths Hub:
              http://www.mathshub.com.sg/index.php?option=com_content&view=article&id=24&Itemid=29

Pls. DO THIS before we talk further.

<Pls. verify yourself on this directly, as we are not paying too much attention
to Primary 5-6 contests and news, our ds2 is P2 only)

Any kids in NUSH without participating in the NMOS?

According to the website, can only register thru school NOT as individual. So many things RS kids are being left out.

Participation in NMOS is not a must but it would help.

DS is doing his Year 2 at NUSH. I would like to share his experience during his DSA selection test. DS is more interested in Maths than Science. He had participated many Maths/Math Olympiad competition since P4. For the DSA Round 1 selection, his initial reaction was Science questions were \"very hard\", most of the questions were beyond what they learnt in primary school, though there were questions that required basic principles. He felt that he got through because he did well in the Maths section. He was comfortable with the Maths questions as, according to him, the questions very similar to those Maths Olympiad type. I think for most kids, the science section would be a challenge as it is difficult to prepare. However, for the Maths section, you can prepare by working on past NMOS/SMOPS papers. Some Maths Olympiad training would be useful. Hope this helps.

By the way, I believe you could participate NMOS through Singapore International School but I think if you qualify for the Second Round, you have to take the Round 2 paper at NUSH.

NMOS is a very high quality standard paper in OM.

Not the very very difficult type, but not that easy.
For those on regular training + OM talented, should be
able to make it for GOLD award.
The mainstream OM students will get SILVER or BRONZE.

                      kamom:
I do greatly appreciate if I can have a rough idea on the kind of questions which the school set for the written test.

                      Hi kamon,

2011 NUSH Selection test was held on 25 June 2011 (Sat) at NUSH itself and a few test centres in sch like Nan Hua Pri, Tao Nan, St. Hilda Pri and Henry Park Pri.

Maths paper was 1 h and 30 min and made up of 23 questions (free response) with a total of 55 marks. The marks allocated were different in either 1-mark, 2-mark, 3-mark and 4-mark for these 23 Maths questions. Only 1 Maths question was a 4-mark question. Some of these Maths questions that came out (not in exact wordings):

                      (a) Find the smallest positive number such that when you use the divisbility test for 11, the difference is 11.

                      (b) There were 3 persons, A, B and C. A did 35 questions in a day and took more than 4 days but less than 5 days to complete. B did 45 questions in a day and completed in less than 3 days. C did n questions in a day and completed in n days. How many questions were there?

                      (c) Place numbers 1 to 9 without repeating in a 3x3 diagram such that the last row is thrice the first row and the second row is twice the first row. What is the largest possible value of the last row?

Science paper was 1 h and 15 min and made up of 30 questions (MCQ) with a total of 30 marks. You have to understand some of the Science concepts beyond P6 level in order to answer correctly.

A total of 2017 students took part in the selection test and 400 students were shortlisted for the selection camp which was held on 23 July 2011 (Sat) at NUSH itself.153 students with confirmed offers and some on waiting list (not sure the exact number) were invited for the direct school admission tea session & school preview on 13 August 2011 (Sat) from 9 am to 12 pm. On that day, letters were be given out to those students with CO and WL upon registration, interaction with NUSH's school seniors (about 20-min period where you could talk to any of their senior students), NUSH Principal's talk, refreshment break and visits to various selected venues to get a feel on how school lessons were conducted.

The format of the 2012 NUSH selection test may be different for this year.Their 2012 Open House will be held on 31 March 2012 (Saturday) from 8:30am to 3pm. Pls visit their website for more info.

Wish your son all the best in his studies and learning journey.
