      Dear all

      Just wondering how to solve this instead of using algebra method.

      Mr tan has some tickets. If he sends 4 tickets each to some companies,he will need 20 more tickets.
      However, if he sends 3 tickets each to the same companies, he will have a remainder of 50 tickets. How many tickets did he have?

      Thanks!!

        Please help me with these questions :

        1) Benita and Mildred shared a box of laminating sheets. If Benita were to give 25% of her share to Mildred, Benita would have half of Mildred's final share. If Benita were to give 16 laminating sheets to Mildred, Benita would have 54 fewer laminating sheets than Mildred. If they were to pack all their laminating sheets into boxes of 25 each, what is the least number of boxes required to pack all of them ?

        2)Jan and Kay had equal number of sweets and equal number of chocolates. Jan ate 12 sweets and Kay ate 18 chocolates and then the ratio of Jan's sweets to chocolates became 1 : 7 and the ratio of Kay's sweets to chocolates became 1 : 4. How many sweets did Jan have at first?

        3)The tickets for a show are priced at $10 and $5. The number of ten-dollar tickets available is 1 half times the number of five-dollar tickets. 5 out of 6 ten-dollar tickets and all the five-dollar tickets were sold. The amount of money collected from the sale of the tickets were $5600. How much more would have been collected if all the tickets were sold ?

        :thankyou:
        Can help me with the above questions ? Thanks !

              I'm not sure about tis question......

              Colin and Karin save $2378.1/6 of Colin's savings is $41 more than 1/7 of Karin's savings. Find the ratio of Colins savings to Karin's savings. Express your answer in the simplest form.

              TIA
              Hi

              Karin's savings --> 7 units
              Colins savings --> 6 x ( 1 unit + 41) = 6 units + 246

              total --> 13 units + 246 = 2378
              1 unit --> 164

              Colin's savings : Karin's savings
              = 6 x 164 + 246 : 7 x 164
              = 15 : 14

              cheers.

                Hi

                Q1.

                If Benita gives 25% to Mildred,
                Benita : Mildred --> 3u : 6u

                So,
                Benita's share --> 4u
                Mildred's share --> 5u

                If Benita gives 16 sheets to Mildred,
                4u - 16 = 5u + 16 - 54
                1u = 22

                Total --> 9u = 9 x 22 = 198
                198 / 25 = 7 r 23 --> 8 boxes needed.

                cheers.

                    Hi

                    Q3.
                    Number of $10 tickets : $5 tickets
                    = 6u : 4u

                    Value of tickets sold :
                    $10 tickets --> 10 x 5u = 50u
                    $5 tickets --> 5 x 4u = 20u
                    70u --> 5600 , 1u --> 80

                    Additional amount that could be collected = 80 x $10 = $800

                    cheers.

                      Hi Tianzhu,

                      Thank you for helping many of us here in solving questions. I would like to seek your advice on any good approach to tackling Maths as a subject. My DS has super good memory when it comes to geography, history, current affairs, events etc. But when it comes to remembering Mathematics concept, strategy and rules, he is like a goldfish with 3 seconds memory! He forgets them so easily! This make learning progress very slow as we have to back track almost every topic that he has been taught.
                      Hi happyheart

                      Good Morning.

                      You’re welcome.

                      Thank you for having faith in my maths ability.

                      First, I’ve to state that I am just a daddy and a victim of circumstances. The harsh realities of life forced me to read up on primary maths so as to help my boy during his PSLE.

                      What I can share with you is my experience with my boy and the time I spent in answering questions in KSP.

                      You’ve mentioned about geography and history, so presumably your DS is now in a secondary school.

                      Children at this age have a mind of their own and wish to pursue their interests. Perhaps, he, like many kids, is more inclined towards humanities subjects. This is what I share with my boy who is also not a fan of maths. Like it or not, the grades for E maths and A maths are part of the results. They affect very much his chances of pursuing the courses of his preference. Hence, he needs to put in sufficient effort to maintain decent grades.

                      I am not familiar with secondary maths syllabus. So I can’t say much.

                      From my limited experience with primary maths, I think understanding the logic and concepts behind the solutions helps. Do not simply memorise steps or procedures. Try to understand the links and relationships between the steps, if feasible, picture the relationships so as to see it better.

                      Best wishes

                        I am having problem trying to help my girl with this question. Please help if possible. Thanks very much

                        Question :
                        (1) Samantha stacked some identical white cubes together to form a larger cube. All the 6 faces of the larger cube were then painted blue. 8 of the smaller cubes did not have any blue face
                        (a) what is the total number of white cubes ?
                        (b) Find the ratio of the number of cubes with one blue face to the number of cubes with 2 blue faces to the number of cubes with 3 blue faces

                        (2) John bought some fruits. 1/3 of them are apples and the rest were watermelons. If he gives away 8 watermelons, there will be 3/5 as many apples as watermelons. How many apples and watermelons were there in the basket at first.

                        Look forward to any assistance to the above questions
