      thanks for the reply.

heard from a friend that each executive members of the SHHK have a wild card for the referral letter...not stated in the website thus dunno whether is it just another 'rumour'..
Not sure what you mean by executive members. are you referring to the committee members and the management( the council level such as the chairman, excutive chairman, treasurer etc)? They can only do 1 referral per member. i ever saw one mummy approaching a committee member asking for her permission to put the committee member's name in her referral form as the SHHK staff will call up the committee member to check that the person is indeed doing the referral. The committee member told the mummy that she cant be her referral as each committe member can do only 1 referral and she has done that for another mummy. But having a referral from committee or council member does not guarantee you to have the referral letter, you need to put in volunteer hours too cos now they are very strict on this. i did 40+ hours of volunteer and got a referral from council level( the referral is a fren's fren's boss). Imagine i have to choop the referral 1.5 years before i register my girl that time with the help of my fren's fren and that the committee are very strict that you have to do volunteer hours before they want to recommend you to have the recommendation letter.

But if you volunteer many hours liao, dun need the referral loh . For me being a kiasu mummy, i just want double protection

may we know the correct sequence ?

        a) join SHHK first then clock 40 to 60 hrs voluntary work, OR

        b) clock 40 to 60 hrs voluntary work first, then join SHHK by getting 2 referral ?

        c) usually what kind of activities can parents attend, in order to mix around, get to know who are the referral ?

First Join SHHK and you will need to get 2 references who are already members + paying entrance fee of $500 + $24 yearly member fee

Then you clock voluntary work hours by emailing to the staff in SHHK to be put in the email list for volunteers

If you want to join SHHK but cannot get 2 references, you can do what my fren did. She and her hubby went to the lessons by SHHK conducted in Toa payoh clan association or SHHK activities, bfore those lessons for children starts, her hubby took a form and go into the .classroom and beg the parents to be the 2 references but i understand from her them nobody wants to be the references ended up one uncle sitting there saw them so pittful that he volunteers to be the reference and get his another uncle fren to do be the reference, then my fren manage to join SHHK. I understand why those parents refuse cos they dun want any more competition when it comes to registering.

as for referral for recommendation letter, errr you can join all volunteer activities but you may not know who is the power referral cos even if those mummies they know, they wont share with you. Unless u super on until to point you are in the committee members for parents volunteers, then you will know who are the referrals. My fren and her fren are not SHHK members but they know about the referral cos my fren's fren on good terms with her boss and they talk about that. i am on good terms with my fren and told her about it and she talked to her fren. So from there i got the help from my fren's fren and i dun even know my fren's fren or her boss.So i owe it to my fren.

in the past, no need to clock.

now they more strict, don't want \"sleeping\" members, want active Hokkien clan members to sweat and contribute 40 to 60 hrs, just like PV in schools. 😓

ya loh now everyone knows that better sign up to be the clan members earlier and in case cannot get PV in school, can fall back on the clans. So many people want to join the clan so they have choices now. Just look at the list of people fighting to be the volunteers will let you know that you can be sleeping members but dun expect high hope of getting recommendation letters. Now some mummies even go one step further as in getting referral from comittee members in order to secure the recommendation letter

how frequent are these clan activities held ? held every month ?

if insufficient activities to go round so many people, how to clock 40 hrs, if everyone fighting to volunteer for the same activity ? won’t be easy.

I think i mention before in the thread that SHHK will send out email to all members of the upcoming activities or big events.once you see that make sure u standby and check email every day after see the email cos they will send out another emails to members who wants to be volunteer to request for volunteers. you have to try to reply back fast. Activities that they need volunteers are like chinese new year, ma zhu dan, kong zi dan, hokkien food festivals, family days etc. how frequent depends on the events like i think there will be one coming up which is the ma zhu dan around apr or may, then kong zi dan around aug , sept

besides just getting the letter for phase 2B P1 registration and getting 10% discount to join SHHK activities, what are other advantages of becoming a member of SHHK ?
