All About Autism

Hi, I’m new.
may i know is errors in parenting will lead a child to autism? so example:-
Been ignoring my son’s attention/needs since young.
letting a child play alone since birth.
Never talk to your child? or very seldom talk to them.
Let them self entertain themselves most of the time.
When child is being active or wan to go away, we give iPad/iphone apps to distraught them.
WAtch TV most of the time. make them self learning themselves.
& etc. -
I dun think absent parenting leads to autism (a neurological disorder), but absent parenting may lead to personality (anti-social) or psychological problems in future.
If you have been ignoring your child, stop now. TV is fine for 3hrs max / day but there should be parental guidance while they watch and you must monitor what they watch. Try outdoor play and read to your child. If you cannot give the child your time for whatever reasons, send the kid to a childcare centre where they can interact with other kids and have trained teachers looking after them.
Children are innocent. Once brought into this world, they are our responsibility. -
Hi Cherrygal,
you are totally correct, think I’m a absent parenting :‘(. maybe during his young age i tot is normal to make a child to be independence. all i wan is to "give me ME time, if you can"… so always try all means of method to make him play alone or enjoy alone :’(
is 2.5yrs old too late for early intervention?
my son has yet to confirmed by physiology. -
Still have time. Is anything wrong with your kid now? If he's not speaking yet, then quickly send him to a childcare centre for social interaction first before getting him diagnosed for other conditions. It is common for kids to speak later if there is not enough stimulation.
If he goes to full day childcare, you can have your \"me\" time.

Hi Cherrygal,
I just enroll my son to childcare centre full day. but keep falling sick so his attendance is very poor.
maybe after plus & minus he only goes for 1month or less.
My son sings very well & label flashcards or iPhone apps flashcards very well. He already noe A to Z, all kind of shapes upto Octogons, knows what is shoe, knife & all household things. he can draw M . or A or draw a potatoe.
He jus don interact & did not involve us in his playing, always like to play alone. solve problem himself. hiaz. We always cheers him whenever he self entertain himself…and usually i jus cheers looking at my laptop without looking at him…
he don’t request , he will just go take himself if items are within his reach or he is able to open himself. but if things he can’t reach or open himself, he will request either bringing me to the item or bring the un-open container he will ask me to open. either by gesture or simply words."i want"
his eye contact is poor too. only recently improve when he start day school. but still quite poor. -
He is a smart boy. Dun worry too much. Just talk more to him. Kids this age like parallel play. It’s a stage.

cherrygal,
I’m very very worry heard tat once their autism surface, all these he learn will disappear from him…
nowsaday he like to shake his head a lot, walk in circle. out of the blue sings to himself or saying flashcards labels himself. also he never on walker b4 but now he like to tip toes…at times.
like to spin but only 2rounds the most. -
will early intervention help him not to shake, spin or tip toes?

Hey Helplessmum3, you are not helpless at all! Your child is still so young, there are plenty you can do. First, put that laptop away, everyday, until he goes to bed.
Then, pay some attention to the kid and plan some events with him. He is only 2.5, there's so much time! I'm sure he and you will be just fine. Don't let your guilty conscience affect how you will treat him. He doesn't sound that bad to me. In fact, he sounds very intelligent. Spend more time with him. Don't end up like http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/asia/southkorea/7376178/Korean-couple-let-baby-starve-to-death-while-caring-for-virtual-child.html
This is also probably the last post I will do here in KSP until the next break. So till then, see you folks! It had been a great break here in Singapore.
