I do not know what is the definition of \"good O Level\" results for joining Y5 in DHS, but I know another IP school which also has an \"O Level\" class accept the kids back in Y5 when their O Level score is 9 points or less (excl any deduction of HCL / CCA points).

Couldn't NJC have retained the boy in Year 3? He could have repeated the year in NJC and progressed on to finish his A levels at NJC. Unless his results were so bad they deemed that he wouldn't have been able to proceed on to Year 5/6. But Augmum is right. They should have been able to identify him at the end of Year 2 so that if he needed to move to an O level school, retention wouldn't have been necessary.jtoh:

Anyway, it could be that the boy only started to fare badly in year 3, or NJC believed that he could do better via 'O' level route.. but these are only my guess lor. -

The issue here ISNT so much becos of early or late bloomers, Geppers or Mainstreamers as what u have stated.
Yes, there is no distinction between Geppers and Mainstreamers by yr 3
as pupils are streamed according to their subj combo and results as well.
i am not too certain whether those few who were downgraded to O lvl class were \" truly Geppers\" or
they were mainstreamers with high psle agg score of 27X, as all these ppils are grouped under the 2 SBGE classes.
Be it Geppers or Mainstreamers, early or late bloomers,
pupils who are downgraded to O lvl class, do generally have some learning atitude problems, i.e.....very slack ( fr what i have seen and heard).
The school itself, has already done her part in trying to \" maintain\" them in the IP.
Much efforts have been done, such as by end of yr 1,
pupils with poor results are being identified and forced to attend the mandatory supervisory studies, with close monitoring of their results.
Letters with details of results of tests, exams, graded assignments N projects obtained in diff sch terms
are collated for parents to see and aknowledge.
Hence, both parents and pupils are notified.
And it is not only 1 letter given but several letters in a yr.
But if they continue slacking and ignore their studies, i guess the sch cant help any further.
in addition, besides academic results, heard that the school would also weigh on teachers'
comments/ recommendations over these pupils' learning attitude in class.
The above is what i have found out fr my gal as there were some ex classmates who went to 3A.
The few marks below DHS COP for Geppers to get in or going in at high 27X does not make a different. The Geppers are taking a different program and some of the things they learn in p4-p6 will be taught in Y1 IP school that few marks on DHS COP does not make much diff. The high T-scorer work hard and with their resilence they made it with high PSLE score.
When come to Y1 all depend on how hard they want to work to achieve good results......no slacking.[/quote]
ya, so whether u are a smarty or a smarty + hardworking who came in with high psle score,
still have to continue to strive hard, as there is no gurantee of a 6 yrs IP here.
it's not easy to being a student in SG, what's more an IP student.......
we, parents, need to observe fr behind, give them movitation and emotional support whenever they need...... -

No raising of bar for yr 2, still stands at gpa 2.4 promo criteria, perhaps more stingent in selection.

But usually how and when does NJC notify weaker pupils ?? what is the usual practice ? any1? -

i heard that every year, there will be a no of dunman high students leaving after year 4 of their 6-yr IP to join vjc…is this true?
reason being that vjc is more ‘happening’ which tend to attract teenagers -
I can also say for Dunman High that number of students leaving for other JCs such as VJC after sec3 is reducing as the school stabilises.
There are quite a number but the number is also reducing. The number of the first batch IP graduaring was 100++, the second batch was 200++, the thrid batch was 362. You can see a clear trend that the number of students transfering out is reducing.
