Joanne Choo Language Centre - Discussion
-
Hi, does anyone know of Joanne Chooβs credential? With due respect, the testimonials sound too good to be true. English is a language that can only improve over time unlike Math concepts and formulas. How could one whoβs very weak in the English language, even failing the paper, pass with flying colours unless they memorised essays & simply plonk it in.
I understand from the various testimonials that many of those who had benefitted
seemed those who are very weak such thay any improvement thereupon would show drastically.
Would a child who is consistently in band 1 benefit from her teaching and go a further notch up?
Without seeming complacent, I have a child who consistently hovers around lower band 1 & higher band 2 and presently learning under a particular private tutor. Sheβs been with the same tutor for 3 years & yet her result remain more or less the same.
I am hoping to find one who is able to assist on this basis.
Any thoughts? -
I would like to share my experience in Joanne Choo Language Centre, years ago..
Back in 2003, when I was a student poor in studies. I failed my English in school, getting a D7 (borderline failure) back in Sec school.
Joanne Choo did not look down on me. She accepted me as her student. She told me that I will eventually like English after her lessons.
2 months down, I really started to like her lessons. I payed attention in almost ALL the lessons. I liked her style of teaching. She did not only used words to describe, she also added in some form of actions.
I started to pick up more in her lessons.
In that year, I did showed improvements. I managed to pass my English at the end of the year for my English, getting a C5.
Back then, I remembered that passing English is mandatory in order to move on to the next grade.
I still remembered, in Sec 3, there was once I topped the class for essay/letter writing in a test. Frankly, what I wrote in the test was the style I learned from Joanne Choo.
It was in late sec 3 when my hectic schedule isn't able to fit any more tuition, that was why I quit.
Eventually, I continued to practice writing on my own free time and at O'Levels, I passed with at least a C5 or B4 (I can't really remember). :?
-------
The learning there, helped me a long way. Even until now, I've been writing to forum letters and I do see that her style of writing (the sequence that should be written) did helped me in letter writing too.
This is my personal experience. Just sharing with people here.

Maybe you could start by introducing yourself first as there are too many newbies in this forum who suddenly appear out of nowhere, vouching for certain tuition centres. And strangely, these newbies 'disappear' when parents start to probe. -

I have nothing to hide as I'm just a former student who have benefited from the lessons. -

I can ensure you that the testimonials have been written by the students themselves. -
@junrahmat: iβm quite terrified to introduce myself online personally . but i can answer any questions that you may have for me! iβm writing my own personal experiences here because i honestly want to help parents to make an informed decision about their childβs education. i myself want what is best for my child and i hope that others can help me out too!
my son surprised me with his PSLE results by getting A* recently and since he was never that great since P3, i have to say that JCLC did help him a lot. he joined Mrs Chooβs class in October when he was in P5. the father of a top student of his school introduced us there. he was pretty weak when it came to english. i really couldnβt do anything about it. but i believe Mrs Choo must have done some miracles on him to get him to improve so much. i put him in for paper 1 and 2 if that helps. -
